DS9 Reboot Cast?

To re-open an old thread, some more ideas:

For Sisko, Mahershala Ali, of HOUSE OF CARDS and HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY, is the clear choice.

Kira: Anna Chancellor (perhaps too old for the role now)

Jadzia Dax: Annet Mahendru (Nina on THE AMERICANS), maybe Ellen Paige

Quark: Neil Patrick Harris

Garak: Bob Odenkirk

Some inspired choices for the villains on this thread (Betty White, Jon Hamm, Aaron Eckhart). For Kai Winn, how about Tilda Swindon (WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN, Narnia, Hobbit, etc.) or Rosamund Pike?

Sisko: Andre Braugher
Jadzia:Jennifer Beals
Bashir: Aksay Kumar
Odo: Scott Glenn
Miles: Jack O'Conell
Kira Nerys: Jamie Alexander

I wouldn't want a reboot of the series--I wouldn't enjoy seeing new actors forced to recreate the roles perfected by old actors who were dedicated professionals. I think I would have more fun with an entirely new cast set on the same old station--DS9: Next Gen.

However, I'd love to speculate what should be changed if the series were rebooted BSG-style.

First, the Bajorans and Cardassians would be distantly related races. They could each be the remnants of an older race that survives after a catastrophe in regional galactic space, having lost significant technology and interbreeding with native species. The Cardassians occupation would be more than just conquest and expansion, but a form of biological imperialism.

Second, O'Brien should become a gay character, in a marriage with an Asian man, with a child from his spouse's previous marriage. I feel that Bashir and Garak is so overdone in fanfic, etc., that I would prefer it get portrayed by a character that has that more everyman quality.

Third, Bashir should be a Muslim-American woman, born in Michigan.

The station should have a better defined political structure. Armin Shimerman did a great job keeping Quark and the bar as an important location in the show, even when it wasn't central to the main narrative. The promenade and living spaces should be conceptualized more like a town, with a type of local government that is strictly regulated by the station's administrative apparatus. If Quark were also the mayor/first selectman, there would more meat behind the contentious relationship with Kira.

Give Odo a recurring security staff!

Female Founder: Betty White (brrrr...)

Actually I could see Betty White as Kai Winn...

That would be hysterical and I might actually like Kai Winn then.

For Quark I would just bring back Armin Shimerman again. No one can do that character like he can, and because the head is full makeup/prosthetics, his age is a non-factor. He would still look the same. You might even be able to do the same with Odo.

Auberjonois is nearly 75, I don't think he would be up for it at this point. As security chief, Odo didn't get into as many physical fights as Worf did. But I don't think he would be very believable as security chief these days.

Odo did get into a few fights in the show, but when thinking about him I always see him more as an inspector/investigator more focused on solving crimes than the rough-and-tumble of the job.
