DS9: Avatar

Chose Book 1 as my first ever Trek novel, just purchased today. Naturally, DS9 is my favorite Trek series. What do you think of my choice? Is Avatar a good place to start for post DS9 reading or are there better choices?

Avatar is the perfect point to start reading the DS9 relaunch.:techman: Avatar was my first Trek novel too, so as I said, great choice. You might also want to check out the Left Hand of Destiny duology which are technically the first two post-WYLB novels, but were published between Rising Son and Unity, so you can read them there.

EDIT: ryan also created this great reading order for DS9 (and other series) novels.

Thanks for your thoughts, and yes I just noticed that thread. Very helpful! I had no idea of the sheer amount of Trek literature. Glad to hear Avatar is a good place to start where DS9 is concerned.

Technically the 'first' post series novel (and before and during) is A Stitch in Time, which is referenced in Avatar! It's also a majestic start to this world, if a depressing one at points.

Avatar is great, it was what introduced me to the wider world of Trek Lit outside of the New Frontier series, which up to that point had been the only adult Star Trek books I had read. It also helped to start what I now call the Novelverse, the big interconnected modern Star Trek novel (and short story and a few comics) universe. I think there might have been a few connected books before them, but things really took off with the Avatar duology and the DS9 Relaunch.

I've just started re-reading the DS9 relaunch again, and though it must be at least my fifth run through it, I'm still amazed at how great Avatar is. Easily one of my top 5 Trek stories ever, and it kicks off a long run of equally amazing books. I envy you, BlueStuff, getting to experience it for the first time. :techman:

I'm not sure if I've read it in the last ten years which is a rather scary thought and something that will need to be remedied soon.

Avatar was fantastic! S.D. Perry really got the relaunch off to a great start. Good choice :techman:
