DS9 Anniversary Plans

Brynthe2

With the post regarding the STM article on DS9's 15th anniversary, I had to start wondering what else we can look forward to for DS9 next year. Obviously, there will be the novel that was postponed from this year, but have any other DS9 projects been announced for next year?

I've been away from the boards for a while, so if this has been covered, please forgive me for bringing it up again. But I have to say, I really miss DS9 and I'm looking forward to the possibilities for next year.

I don't think they are probably going to be doing to much, because they seem to be saving most of the anniversary stuff for X0th anniversaries.

The Terok Nor series, which deals with the Cardassian occupation of Bajor, is a DS9 prequel. James Swallow's Day of the Vipers comes out in April, S.D. Perry and Britta Dennison's Night of the Wolves in May, and Perry and Dennison's Dawn of the Eagles in June.

However, as JD says, I don't think there are anniversary plans as such; there are just too many different series to balance if you're doing an anniversary celebration every five years.

So, is Fearful Symmetry still on the schedule for April, or has that been pushed back further due to the author change?

Any other news on DS9:R titles after Fearful Symmetry?

Fearful Symmetry was never scheduled for April 2008. (Its very first tentative publication date was April 2007, though.) It's currently scheduled for July 2008.

No news on what's next, but the rest of the 2008 schedule has already been announced, so it'll be 2009 at earliest.

Unless we get a DS9 e-book miniseries, we still haven't heard what 6 of the ebooks will be.

^For once, I can honestly say this.

If there's anything planned, I'm not involved, neither have I heard anything.

Ah, okay, guess I got the previous date confused with the new date. Kind of disappointing that there is such a stretch between DS9 books lately. I understand the delay, due to a change in authors, but I had gotten used to two or so a year. I already burned through the two TNG books I've picked up, Resistance and Q&A, and enjoyed them, finishing both of them in a night a piece. At least I'll have Before Dishonor, shortly, but the wait until July for another DS9 book that carries forward the current storyline makes me sad.

Thanks to all of you who responded. BTW, any news on when the next Titan novel will released and who is writing it? Any new plans for VOY:R books, or are we waiting on Christie Golden to fit something in to her schedule (side note: I still think the VOY series should have been given to multiple authors.. seems to have worked great with TNG and DS9.)

And Terri.. sorry to hear you won't be involved if there in fact is some kind of DS9 ebook series in the works.

Geoffrey Thorne's Sword of Damocles is coming out this December.

It's been hinted that the events of David Mack's Destiny trilogy, coming out in October-December 2008, will somehow set the direction for future Voyager fiction; I believe Kirsten Beyer may be involved in that, but I'm not sure.

Speaking of Sword of Damocles, does anyone know when we should be seeing the back cover text on S&S Star Trek page? Usually I try to be patient, but now the back cover text for Creative Couplings (a December book) and Forged in Fire (a January book) are on the site, but there is still no sign of SD's (a November book).

Thanks, Brynthe2. :)

I've spent the last few hours trying to figure out how to say this here (especially since a lot of people know already), but That Sleep of Death is going to be my last contribution to Trek fiction for the foreseeable future. I'll still be working with the magazine whenever PaulSimpson sees a need for a writer like me, but I've pretty much done what I set out to do in the Trek universe. I'm a novelist first and foremost. I had to learn how to write a short story for Prophecy and Change, and no, I'm not joking. It's time to give my original fiction the care and feeding it hasn't been getting because of working on Trek. I've got an original novel series being shopped around, an editor interested in a YA series in that same universe, and I'm even putting together a 6-issue comic proposal in that universe as I type.

Now, you have no idea how weird it is for me to be saying all of this, knowing full well that my S.C.E. stuff is actually going to start seeing print soon. New stuff will be coming out, but it's old stuff, and it's new, but it's old, but.... :wtf: Ignore the smell, it's just a synapse shorting out. *checks* Aw, damn, it was the last unpatched one, too.

Don't worry. I'll still be here to take the piss out of Christopher whenever he screws up and gives me a shot I can't resist. It's what I do.

I didn't want to derail the thread, but I figured it was about time I said something here to you guys, and, unfortunately, Brynthe2 gave me the opening to do this.

So, let's put it back on track with a "How cool is the DS9 15th Anniversary Mag gonna be?" question.

Totally rocks. Like one-billion percent. And you can trust me on this. ;)

DS9 fans are getting treated very well for the 15th anniversary. We get a new relaunch book, three pre-series books, probably some Myriad Universe and Mirror Universe action, and probably some tidbits in the Destiny trilogy. It's going to be a fun year. Badda bing indeed!

Thanks Terri for getting me all excited about the DS9 15th anniversary magazine. Best of the 5 series (six if you include TAS). Oh, and glad you'll be sticking around to keep people on their toes. Gives me a good laugh from time to time.

I can say there are DS9 elements in mine, but it would be completely untrue and totally misleading.

Mine will focus heavily on DS9, as well as Voyager, NF, and CoE. Epic crossovers, high octane-action, star-crossed romance, and a time-traveling, Prophet-guided beagle named Porthos.

No, wait. That was just a dream.

Note for future reference: Avoid the Chili Cheese Nachos Bell Grande after 10pm.
