'Droxine': Yes, yes, oh yes!

Had a body like a super model, and when you consider the body on nuUhura,
she was just Spock's physical type.

Yummy.

.

She may have been a little on the skinny side, but there was just something about her....what was it again? Oh yeah--this:

The women in TOS were cast for many reasons, one of which was their hotness factor. We can argue that this commodification of women is unsavoury, but it was the 60s and from what old people from the 60s tell me, women saw using their sexuality as an affirmation of their freedom and power. Unlike today, when it seems that we must all pretend to be androgynous sans sexual appetite in order to be considered "enlightened."

If by this you mean today we aren't allowed to be people anymore, I agree.

It's still routine to cast actors of both sexes on the basis of physical attractiveness. You won't see a lot of bad-looking or even ordinary-looking people on any TV show, and what ordinary-looking people you do see will mostly be male.

As for Diana Ewing, yes, she was on the gaunt side, but she had a spectacularly lovely face. She was in a Mission: Impossible episode with Martin Sheen, airing just 5 days before "The Cloud Minders," and she looked even lovelier there, with a more flattering hairstyle (though with much less revealing clothing).
