Drop the Registration Number-My Request For a Future Series

What a nice over reaction, so cute.

All I asked was, was it necessary to have large painted letters all over the hull of a ship that is hardly going to be walked up to and read, nothing else.

The numbers are completely made up and viewers know what ship they're looking at, the hero ship is always plastered over promotional material and the one ship we see week to week, it doesn't need an eye chart of it's name painted in 20 feet tall letters on it's outer surface anymore than people need their names sewn several inches tall into all their clothing.

No, it's perfectly keeping with my earlier comment. If it's such a major problem to storytelling keeping something that's only seen on the hull of a ship and rarely mentioned onscreen at all, then stuff that really carries some weight behind it should be eliminated too, right?

There's nothing wrong with the registry. And the chances that it'll ever be dropped anyway is about zero.

You might as well get rid of the name on the hull too.
And why have lights on there anyway? What are the odds you're going to run into the thing?
If the ship is docked at a poorly-lit space station (Federation or otherwise), lights would help the uninitiated know which vessel they were approaching. They would also come in handy for craft that don't have the means to read Starfleet transponders and have to rely on optical scanners to identify a vessel.

Having grown up on Trek, I always considered NCC-1701 to be part of the Enterprise's full, proper name. Yes, it's rarely mentioned, but you don't say a friend's first, middle, and last names when you have a regular conversation with them. But they are still indispensable parts of their identity.
