Driving question.

I was Car 1 in this situation recently and the guy behind me did it and it didn't really bother me, I'd probably do the same thing in the situation as there's no need for "Car 2" to wait to make a right-turn because of a train, there's plenty of times this crossing gets 10-12 cars long down a 2-lane street through a residential/light commercial area so it can create a traffic problem if Car 1 is stopped there and other cars further back want to turn right.
I'm a little curious about this now.

Trekker, if you were "Car 1," and (as you said in another post) you could turn right, go a little ways up the road to an underpass, and pass under the train...

Why were you just sitting there this time? Seems to me you would use the method that's worked for you before.

Are you sure this isn't just made up?

What is Pflumm and Sante Fe Trail Drive, Alex?

If I was Car 1 I do just turn rather than wait, more than a few times I'm Car 2 and Car 1 is and idiot who doesn't take the alt route, making everyone else wait.

The times I didn't do it was because I could see the end of the train coming.

The intersection you cited? ... Yes.

Yeah. I'm that good. :mallory:

Remind me to tell you some tales sometime about the jazz clubs I use to play in your area when I lived in Lawrence.

Got to say I'm impressed. For the record, at this intersection I realize how complicated it'd be to make it suck less. For the sake of my reputation, what there is of it, I'll no longer perform this maneuver. Feel free to PM me your jazzy stories. :)

The money you save from the ticket you never get will be yours to treasure.

For my money, I'd just avoid that intersection like the plague. Just cross over on Norland to get to 95th. Isn't there a big hotel right near there on 87th and I-35 (Holiday Inn?)? I think that's where our basketball band from OSU used to always stay for the Big 12 basketball tournament.

Turn left and find a place to turn around legally if you're in that much of a hurry.

^^ There's not going to be a way to turn left either, till the train passes & the E/W gets a green light.

I'm unclear on this part. Is there a left turn light that will turn green while a train is keeping the forward light red, or is there just the one light (with perhaps a sign saying "left turn yield at green"). Locutus's solution is probably the best if there's a left turn light that turns green while a train is passing.

Light stays red period, there's no green arrow, just a yield on green IIRC.

Bobba, driving down Pfflum is the quickest way between my job and home, no big deal getting caught like this is pretty rare.
