Drex Files is gone!

If you never saw Doug Drexler's Wordpress blog, you were missing out on a great resource of ship renders, concept art, and behind-the-scenes info. Unfortunately, it's now gone.

I loved that site.

That's an odd reason to take it down, though. Let the whiners whine, I say.

Sorry for the resurrection of this thread, but I figured some might be interested in hearing that stuff from the Drex Files will be reposted via The Trek Collective:

Missing the blog format of Drex Files, I reached out to Doug, and am delighted that has endorsed a cunning plan to open the files once more. So welcome to the first post of "Drex Files in Exile", where I'll be bringing back some of the old Drex Files articles, and re-presenting what Doug has posted on Facebook. You'll be able to find Drex Files posts on The Trek Collective under a dedicated tag, and I'll be maintaining an index page, which you'll find a link to in the bar at the top of the site, to make it nice and easy to find exactly the Drex File you're looking for.

I wonder if they will be including any new stuff he's been putting on his Facebook page along with the legacy stuff from the original site. From what I recall, there are new things there.

I guess so:

It was a cool site and I am sad to hear it is down but I do understand the concerns of other artists. I find it disheartening though that people are calling them "whiners". He shouldn't put his site watermark on their work at all. I do very amatuer wallpapers just for myself that I've shared online but I still wouldn't want someone else stamping their site on stuff I spent time on so I can imagine how someone who spent hours rendering things would feel about it too.

If all that was required was a removal of watermarks and simple credit given (I recall there were several where credit was given) then that's all well and good. To cause so many problems that resulted in a complete shut-down of one of the most valuable Trek-nology sites on the web (and quite possibly the only one with this much behind-the-scenes topical information of its kind) is a childish and, yes, whiney way of conducting business. It hurts the whole fan community who have been looking for those specific things for over 20 years and it doesn't place the artists in a very favorable light either. Its loss was a tragedy either way you cut it and could have been handled better on both sides.

Sorry to necro this thread, but I was wondering if anyone did have a complete archive of the Drex Files? The wordpress blog linked above is now defunct, and Wayback Machine only has a fairly limited amount of stuff.
