Dreamland official blog

This reminds me that I intended to post this, but I forgot all about it. Hope you don't mind me posting it in your thread, captcalhoun.

I hope the next update brings us a picture of the new companion, possibly one of those sexy waitress's who work in those kinda of cafes, in there sexy waitress outfits

I don't like the style on this one at all. I thought they were going to stick with the style used on The Infinite Quest, which is considerably better looking.

I just hope that this is better animation. The last one was practically stills with moving eyes and mouths. I also hope the plot is more coherent.

Well, to be fair the last one, while it was multiple chapters, still had only the running time of a single regular episode, so there was a lot of stuff to fit in. Sounds like they're going to have a bit more time with this one.

I wonder if Georgia's character is going to look anything like her? Considering they can't really make her to look too much like Jenny...

I only hope that they don't delay the North American DVD of this by a year like they did Infinite Quest. Including it as an extra in the Specials box set would be nice, but then Infinite Quest should have been included with Series 3, but wasn't. Guess they want to keep the cartoons at arm's length from the "real" series.

Since this is going to be put up on the BBC website, that probably means all of us in North America will not be able to access it (at least not until someone puts it, er, elsewhere). I wonder if there's any point in lobby Space Channel and BBC America to either show or host it on their webpages?

^Yeah I'm not entirely sure if this is going to take place in Roswell, New Mexico or outside of Area 51. The Dreamland name seems to suggest Area 51 but it's hard to say for sure.

I thought the Roswell with the alien ship crash landing was in New Mexico? The Georgia story reminds me of the Billy Joel song "Miami 2017".

Why didn't they use the company that did the CGI for recent Captain Scarlet show? That was pretty good.

The problem I had with The Infinite Quest's story was that it felt more appropriate to Eight/Izzy than to Ten/Martha. Each episode felt like an eight-page comic. Stylistically, it would have fit quite well as a Doctor Who Magazine comic strip in the late 90s, which makes me wonder if it was an idea that Alan Barnes had filed away that he hadn't been able to use at the time.

The only problem I had with the story was that it was a retread of Keys of Marinus, not to mention The Key to Time.

But remember that Infinite Quest was created for Totally Doctor Who, a kids show. So it wasn't the forum to do a story like Turn Left or Blink.

Dreamland will probably also be a bit more simplified, although that said I got the DVDs for SJA season 1 and started watching it expecting it to be a really kiddified show (per comments made at OG and elsewhere) and I found it to be a lot more mature and deep in the storytelling than I would have expected (anyone who thinks it was juvenile must have missed "Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane"). So Dreamland will probably be a good-quality story that may or may not have any impact on the ongoing arc.

Personally, I'm looking at it (and Tennant's appearance on SJA and the possibility of a mini-episode) as bonuses to be enjoyed before Tennant moves on. If Dreamland isn't exactly Hugo material, I won't care.

I, for one, loved Infinite Quest once I saw it all together as one. Piece by piece didn't work for me but once I saw the whole coherent story (yes, I thought it was coherent), I loved the story and animation. It felt a bit like The Key of Time.

I'm looking forward to Dreamland, but I might just wait until the whole thing is released before watching.

So exactly what format is this taking? Full episode length animations? Looks interesting...

It's going to be shown in parts like The Infinite Quest was and then shown as a whole first on CBBC and then on BBC1. I think. May be different channels.

According to the Doctor Who News Page, it's airing in 6 parts which when combined add up to a 45-minute story, so basically the same as Infinite Quest, which was also the length of a regular episode. Except the chapters will be longer because IQ was something like 12 or 13 parts. It's going to be available in its chapter format only on the BBC Website and Red Button service (so if you live outside the UK, forget it), but then it'll be shown in a single chunk on BBC Two and BBCHD. Presumably that'll be the format they'll use for the DVD/Blu-Ray release later.

^ Won't the individual parts turn up on YouTube eventually? That's how I originally watched The Infinite Quest. I eventually bought the DVD, but it was quite sometime afterwards before that was released here in N.A.
