Dragonball new pictures including piccolo

Dragonball was full of nudity, and DBZ was full of swearing, blood, and guy-butt

Japan culture is different from American. This stuff was made for children.

*groan* everything is black and white with you, isin't it?

:wtf: You're mad because I'm telling you facts? Unbelievable. When Dragonball Z aired in America, it was SEVERELY edited to remove all those "adult" themes. This may be hard for you to believe, but the whole world doesn't believe the same things as America.

All cartoons are not made just for children. Don't think they ever have. In fact a lot of stuff today is made for tweens and young adults. Times have changed.

thats what i'm trying to tell YOU, dragonball was made for more than just children to enjoy

One of the best too. To illustrate, large amounts of people in Japan, Mexico and Poland took a day off from work in order to watch the Gohan goes SSJ2 episode at the earliest opportunity. In Poland it sparked the debate on whether animation is only for kids.

DBZ still, to me, is something I enjoy rewatching on occasion.

In it's unedited proper Japanese of course. The English dubs are absolutely horrendous.

According to the box, http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827/catalogmgr/rOQjAnn0MGkEqNX39L/browse/item/80578/4/0/0, it's for ages 13+.

However, there's this quote:

"Dragon Ball Z was marketed to appeal to a wide range of viewers from all ages, and contains crude humor and occasional excesses of violence which are commonly seen as inappropriate for younger audiences by American standards. When it was marketed in the US, the distribution company FUNimation alongside with Saban decided to initially focus exclusively on the young children's market, because the anime market was still small compared to the much larger children's cartoon market."

It appears that we are both right.

And, by the way, I HATE that Japanese language version. Yuck! Keep the American voices and music, keep the violence, ditch the Japanese voices and music.

Are you crazy!? Have you completely lost your mind!?

A Buddhist monk (Krillin) saying, "Mondo cool?"

The absolutely horrendously bad synthesizer music, that literally hurts your ears (with one or two exceptions)?

Remember Goku first going Super Saiyan? Notice how his son was afraid? How Roshi was mentioning that such power might change Goku? And what's the music they show? "Oh, yeah! Cool! Awesome!" The music doen't fit the scene! It utterly destroys the essence of the moment. The original music is an organ, the sound of forboding, of horror. This isn't a happy go lucky moment, this Goku having his soul torn in half with grief and unleashing unimaginative, especially for him, new anger, rage, and power.

The absolutely unwillingness to allow any kind of silence, utterly DESTROYING Gohan's transformation into SSJ2. First the ridiculous music when Cell steps on 16 and right after - it's supposed to be SILENT, the only thing you hear is some wind. The silence builds up the momentum, but in this one the music completely tears it in half. Then Gohan's ridiculous thoughts, "I could have stopped this. My god, I feel it slipping." Slipping!? SLIPPING!? Did these idiots not see the visuals? Did they not see the dove of peace getting SHOT, and then fires of hell opening up behind Gohan? This isn't slipping, this going off the deep end, this is exploding rage and anger, it's KABOOM. NOT slipping. And the music. Argh! Again, "Oh, looky, how cool!" This isn't cool! This is the power that with a tiny mistake can blow up the planet, like Gohan said he was afraid of. Did they not see the tears running down Gohan's cheek or something!? The original music though... my god, sad at first, and then building up to a powerful crescendo, moving and powerful all at the same time, and the lyrics!:

Time overflows
O Messiah O Messiahs

YUDULIYA-VELE YUDULIYA VELE
YUDULIYA-VELE
YUDULIYA AIYALIYA

Ah, drawing fathomless terror
Ah, evil spirits come near

I won't lose the eyes that depart from destiny
I can only go on Living life to the dawn
By my own strength!!

WOW WOW Definitely
I am the one who will surpass myself!
WOW WOW Gather your energy
Blow away destiny!!

YUDULIYA-VELE YUDULIYA VELE
YUDULIYA-VELE
YUDULIYA AIYALIYA

Ah, bloodthirsty beasts smile
Ah, spirits of justice heat up

Don't want a world with no one in it!
Don't want to see a planet where one cannot dream!
Not a chance!!

WOW WOW Can not stand
Not defeating you!
WOW WOW I shall put an end
To that laugh of yours!

Even if you are above me now
When tomorrow comes tomorrow's winds will blow
Well then, go!!

WOW WOW Definitely
I am the one who will surpass myself!
WOW WOW Gather your energy
Blow away destiny!!

WOW WOW Definitely
I am the one who will surpass myself!

Blow away destiny!!

And remember when Cell after he's reborn asks Gohan what's there to smile about, when he's smiling? In the English I can't even remember what meaningless mumbo jumbo he says, in the Japanese he says, "I'm glad that I get to kill you with my own hands after all."

And the pronunciations of names, UGH! You should go find the German parody of it "American Ball Z" to really appreciate just how horribly names are mangled. For one thing, you never hear Goku's family name! Son! His name is Son Goku.

Horrible! Horrible! Horrible!

I bought the soundtrack to both the American DBZ series and the Trunks Compendium. So that's how much I LOVE the Americanized, uncut DBZ version. That music was the absolute best! That music for first time super saiyan sent chills through my body. I can feel it right now, just remembering it. Best frakkin' cartoon series I've ever seen in my life! If it was a drug, they'd be richer than Bill Gates.

Take all the things that annoyed you about DBZ and multiply them by a factor of 3 and then you'll have GT.

x3? yikes! so one fight scene lasted 60 episodes? now that's worse than any terrible tv show you can ever imagine. that's worse than watching the hypnotoad show. lol

I've only seen a few episodes from Dragonball, and GT was near unwatchable. Music sucked, too.

I won't buy those forced widescreen DVDs either.

Saban's English dub is horrible, Funimation's Re-dub is passable but not great. Funi took over the series durring season 3 and dubbed until the end, then went back and aquired the first two seasons from Saban and dubbed those as well.

I also really dislike the Japanese music for the series and if given a choice, much prefer the dub's synth stuff.

While I exagerate a little but you get the drift.

Actually, no. Funimation ALWAYS owned the rights to the entire series, and were ALWAYS behind ALL of the dubs. They simply outsourced the dubbing process at first, although they wrote / translated the scripts. Later on, they went and did it themselves.

None of which really contradicts the main point of the statement I was trying to make, but yeah, for clarification's sake it might be more exact I suppose. I don't remember their logo on my old VHS tapes of the first season though so I'm a bit skeptical as to whather that's true or not.

As far as Funimation goes they've really come a long way from the days of DBZ. They've gone from a one trick pony (only liscensing shounen martial-arts series at first) to an expansive library of titles of many different genres. Their dubbing used to be sub par but now I'd consider them one of best in the bussiness. Not only that but they also are well in touch with the fans as proved recently when they made a large number liscense rescues this year when Geneon and ADV began to have catastrophic trouble getting their series out. I personally salute them for picking up Black Lagoon, Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage, Ergo Proxy, Fate/Stay Night, Hellsing Ultimate, When They Cry-Higurashi, Devil May Cry, Kanon (2006), and many more which many people, including myself, would posibly not have been able to ever complete otherwise.

These series are now gradually filtering their way back onto shelves in the anime sections in both single disc reprints and collections. The series that didn't comple will be completed of course as well. I am decidedly a happy camper considering I was left with 5 of those series incomplete which now I'll be able to finish.:)
