Regardless of how this movie turns out, at least they're trying to make a kung-fu fantasy film and they're not trying to reinvent the characters as "normal" people like some adaptions try to do.

If they can succeed at making a convincing DBZ movie I'll be pleased. I want the fights to make the ones in the Matrix Trilogy look candy-assed. I want kame hame ha fireballs and giant monkeys destroying towns, dammit!

Everything about this movie looks awful can anyone actually name a live action anime film that was good?

Fist of the North Star

and that had better NOT be Piccolo (tracks down the 2x4 of common sense and goes to hollyweird)

They roped Chow Yun-Fat into this?

Even if this sucks it looks like it will be a funny disaster like Street Fighter or Double Dragon and if it somehow is good, well, so much the better.

Can you believe Ernie hudson is Popo? lol

It's a race to see which one will do worse

Street Fighter:Legend of Chun Li or Dragonball

Should have gotten an Asian guy for Goku. Master Roshi is bald. Piccolo is green. Why do they even make these things if they are not going to make them reflect the actual product. They should at least have something in common with the source.

I like the animated Fist of the North Star, but the live action film was shit. Piccolo should be green, why can't they get the simple things right?

I know Mutenroshi! And you, Sir, are no Mutenroshi!
An I really like Chow Yun Fat!
God, that movie looks like shit... A sans antennae Piccolo? Awwww :(

hey, i liked Fist of the North Star, the only real bitch i had about it was that Julia didn't kill herself

The Death Note films are great, Speed Racer wasn't that bad either. Apparently, Hollywood has run out of ideas so they're looking to other countries media. Expect to see a bunch more of them come our way. Akira, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, and Robotech are some of the other projects I've seen announced.

Personally, I think if they're done right they have a chance of being good, an even better chance if they're more down to Earth. The Dragonball film doesn't look like it does either and really looks like it's going to suck at this point though.

I'm still going to see it anyway though, seeing as how the show was my gateway into anime and I still kind of like it. Definitely not the best anime has to offer but it was enjoyable and I'm curious as to how the live action will be.

I'll hold out one ray of hope. Even if they fail on the look, maybe the tone and spirit can still somehow be kept.

I don't see how Dragonball is even translatable to cinema in the first place. The whole concept is just waaay too out there.

Actually Dragonball Z is one of the easiest anime's to bring to the screen especially today. I can think of several movies that clearly show you could do a true Dragonball Z movie if you wanted. The problem is that very few people actually want to make a true movie. Maybe TDK and Iron Man will change that but I don't think so, since Spider-Man didn't.

so... hopefully this is a dragonball movie not a dragonball z movie else once they start fighting, it would take 20 movies before they are done with that one fight scene. >_<

Piccolo is not green...? First huge dissapointment about this movie as far as I'm concerned. I'll probably still see it DVD though.

I had read an interview how the cast who are fans of Dragonball had wanted to keep the look of the characters through make up and costumes.

Bunch of bullshit that was.

in defense of DBZ, the anime was being produced alongside the manga and the animators had to wait until the next week's issue of DBZ to continue the story, so the anime has alot more filler than the manga
