Dragon Age - Discussion Thread

My download speed might manage it - but I suspect my provider would throw a strop afterwards:lol:

Hopefully it'll arrive by friday as I have the day off:)

Playing it makes me want to upgrade everything and to be fair I'm due for it as my computer is coming on 4 years old (and even back then it was high-mid range only). I thought I was going to have problems because the opening cutscenes seemed jerky, though it wasn't so when I was playing. Had a look and it seems to be due to the cutscenes being locked at a lower framerate. It was very noticeable, but I'm starting to get used to it.
Yeah, that's one of the more disappointing aspects of the game at this point. The switch between framerates from regular gameplay to cutscenes is incredibly noticeable. I read that they synced the spoken dialogue to match up with 30 FPS, so if they played the cutscenes at 60 FPS the characters' mouths would be ahead of the dialogue. I guess consoles are still dictating a lot of decisions for developers. :p

A neat little side game has just been unveiled that'll unlock some in-game weapons. Basically you have to watch each of the three companion trailers in turn, then it'll play again and you need to click where little green wisps appear to unveil clues (basically, little bits of lore.) There are three clues per trailer an once you have all nine you unlock the Inquisitor trailer and this time instead of just clicking, you have to do this click-drag thing to unveil each of the three weapons.

Make sure you're logged into the origin website before you do this and it should unlock them in your game when you're done. Full instructions of how to acquire them in-game are in the link.

I just completed it. It's really dumb, but at least it ties into the lore.

Actually the only problem is I don't like my character's face anymore. I kind of rushed it and am regretting it, so I'm likely to start again and re-roll. However, I now need to sleep so that can wait until later.
Oh god, I've got horrible restartitis with this. Two days have passed, and I still haven't been satisfied with a character I've made. Part of it is me getting weirded out by all my femquisitors sounding like Samantha Traynor. I tried the second voice, but it seems like it'd only be fitting for a dwarf or qunari. Could always do a manquisitor (my canon Hawke ended up being male, snarky male Hawke FTW!) but would rather save that for a second playthrough. Got the farthest with sword and shield, but found it got tedious having to run around to hit everything, so now I'm trying to settle on an archer I'm happy with.

Yeah, I anticipate spending a good hour just messing around with the character creator. I haven't even decided what race to choose yet! It'll defiantly be a female, dual wielding rogue since that's sort of the tradition with my first playthroughs. I'll probably be boring and go human because I want my mage inquisitor to be Qunari and I'm thinking elf for my 2H warrior.

Fucking Amazon! :scream::scream:

Delivery was due today and no delivery!

If it's not here by tomorrow they can keep it and i'm going to a store.

Mine's in transit apparently.

It's scheduled for monday, but if it's trackable (as it is) it usually means it'll get here tomorrow or saturday.

As for my first character, I'm thinking female Qunari Mage or possibly Elven Rogue.

Mine just arrived, installing as we speak! Just goes to show how long it's been since I've bought a physical copy of a PC game that I was shocked to see it has no less than four sodding discs! It's like it's 1993 again and I'm swapping floppies on my brother's Atari ST. ;)

They still make and sell physical media copies of PC games? :p

Also, LOL @ DA:I coming on DVDs for the PC version. It sure takes you back to the floppy swapping days indeed

Normally I stick with downloads, but this is an Origin title and while it didn't turn out the be the digital antichrist that some gamers seemed to expect, i still don't trust it enough not to also have a physical backup. Case in point, the last physical PC game I bought was Mass Effect 3. ;)

But yeah, I think it's about time they switched to USB flash drives for physical copies. I've even heard that a lot of people aren't even bothering to put DVD drives into their new build gaming PCs.

I used to marvel at this, too, until I moved to an area where the only decent ISP has usage caps. I had to make an exception for DA:I because it's cold and I didn't want to drive to the store. ;)

^Most UK ISPs have usage caps... I think we have a cap of 60GB per month, which is the higher tariff (the lower is 10GB).

OK, here's my first attempt at my main Inquisitor: -

I thought it was OK until (as is typical with Bioware games) I got into a cutscene and the eyebrows and make-up bother me so now I have to restart! I knew this would happen. :p

As much as I appreciate how much better the CC is overall...I'm not loving the hair options. All I wanted was a simple tied back ponytail, but of the two they have, one looks loose and...damp? The other has a mullet. Grrr.

So I'm about 12 hours in I guess and holy crap this game is so sprawling compared to Origins and DA2. I'm still exploring the second area. The non-scaling encounters have been giving me some serious trouble too but it's interesting. And I'm spending a lot more time hunting for various craftables than I expected. Human male sword and shield warrior for this first playthrough, as per tradition for my DA games. Loving it so far. :D

Agreed, the hair looks really weird and there aren't many great options. I can't wait for the modding community to get into this and come up with some new and improved hairstyles. That said, I was very pleased to find that they allowed Qunari characters without the big, honking horns. My two-handed warrior Qunari appreciates it. :techman:

Oops. I think it's time for an upgrade for me:(

It's been a while since I've needed to bother too much about checking the specs and I'd only checked that I had the speed, memory and graphical capability on my desktop.

(In theory though, my laptop may be able to handle it - at least if the turbo kicks in. I'll have to give that a try later).

As for mods, there seem to be some comments about how they're unlikely, but I'm hoping for some after how much both DAO and DA2 managed to get.
