Dracula in the Buffyverse

EJA

Fleet Captain
Quite a while ago now, I got the Spike vs. Dracula miniseries from IDW. Now I hear that Dracula has turned up again in the BtVS Season Eight comic series from Dark Horse, and I just wondered how it matches up with the aforementioned IDW series. I've heard it takes into account that short story in the Tales of the Slayers TPB published ages ago, but that's about it.

Dracula appears in the "Wolves at the Gate" arc written by Drew Goddard. He is sought out by his former manservant (there are several jokes in the arc reminding Xander of his former station) Xander to help against Japanese vampires who Dracula realizes have somehow stolen his powers and helps the group out of pride.

He teaches Willow a spell to help contain the solidifying vampires that's about it. He's used in a comedic role and as a plot device to further the over all part. I believe if I recall that he makes a comment to Renee (who Xander has just started dating) which foreshadows her fate (which isn't good). This arc also sets up the return to the Fray future time which is told in the next arc.

Does it contradict Spike vs. Dracula at all? How long after season 5 of Angel (when the last issue of SvD was set) does the Season Eight comic occur?

The Season Eight comic takes place about a year after the final events of the finale of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". If you want go check out the wikipedia article which is where I looked up the Dracula stuff since I couldn't recall the entire arc. I don't know if it contradicts "Spike Vs Dracula" because I've not read that issue. As was mentioned to you before most of the comics are canon and everything in Season Eight is considered canon. It is like literally reading a brand new season.

To further clarify things, the last issue of the Spike vs Dracula mini appears to take place fairly early in season 5, as Spike is still a non-corporeal ghost. Dracula comes to Wolfram & Hart in LA about his castle in Sunnydale, which was destroyed along with the rest of the city. Where this would fall in relation to Dracula's appearances in BtVS Season Eight is beyond me at the moment.

Does BtVS Season Eight take place after the end of Angel Season Five?

Pretty much.

Gotta say I love Dracula's appearances in the comics, redueced to a Howard Hughs style recluse not by his love for Buffy whom he seems to have gotten over but for Xander!

Love? He was trying to seduce her, but he probably does that with every female he meets. I didn't see any indications that he was ever in love with her.

Lust for Xander over Buffy?
