DR.WHO..worth it?

Watch from the Eccelston ones.

For the LOVE OF GOD DO NOT watch the older ones. They are pretty much just niché viewing now. Also, if you were born after 1980, you have lost the gene that allows you to watch a special effect and understand the context of the era it was created in. You simply judge EVERY program or movie EVER made by the standards set by Avatar. Thus you will NOT be able to take old Who's effects seriously.

What rot. There's more to life than special effects, you know.

Uuuummmmm..........Somebody needs to brush up on their comprehension skills.

Read my post again before going off like some crazed religious zealot. If you are able to understand you'd see I was actually making fun of the very people who cannot get past older effects and see the story.

I refer to the older show as "niche viewing" because I feel it is just so long and complex and dated now. It's be like trying to get a fan of the newest ST film into the mythology, canon and timelines of the previous five ST series. There's just too much and is it really worth it?

[fanboi moment] Oooo, I'd like to see the Daleks up against the Borg! [/fanboi moment]

Yeah but come on. Unless they're an energy being or Species 8472, who else is going to stand much of a chance?
True, but think about the Dalek in the episode of the same name, when you could see what it really can do with shielding and weapons and tactical skills, I think it would be closer than you might think. OTOH, the Borg would strive like crazy for the technology.

Either way, the action would be... extreme. :D

Hey, if someone here has Teh Fotoshoppe skillz, make up a Borg Dalek! Now THAT'S scary!

Thing is, "The Daleks" is pretty much the UK equivalent in these matters of "Batman, if he has time to prepare"...

I have never seen Dr. Who in my life. But the commercials I have been seeing on BBC INTERNATIONAL look pretty good. Do need to have seen the previous versions? Or will this new season be a reboot??? And...is it worth watching?

Posh talk for "nitch". [Beryl Reid's Posh Voice]One says it with one's little finger stuck out while drinking one's shandy, don't you know...[/Beryl Reid's Posh Voice]

My apologié.

On topic: Start with the 2005 stuff and take it from there. 'Tis good.

I agree with ITL but there's nothing wrong with starting with the current one either.

Ah, so I missed you oh so clever use of irony. That's what trying to post whilst fighting off a heavy cold does for you. My points all still stand though. Indeed, if you're saying what I think you're saying, you ought to be agreeing with me rather than trying to score cheap points. No zealotry with me, I just happen to prefer multi-camera vt drama to modern shows.

That's like saying Casablanca or The 39 Steps or Ice Cold in Alex are too old for people to appreciate as good films. I regularly watch old (30 years +) tv shows I've never seen before (the proliferation of DVD releases is a godsend there) - not just Doctor Who, loads of stuff, and I enjoy it a lot more than most current shows.

It's worth it if it works for you. Thing is, if you don't bother to check it out, you'll never get to know.

It is if the viewer turns out to be living in that niche, yes...

I think TOS has aged far better than classic Who. Who suffers from a more outlandish concept with daring escapades of the imagination. It seems to me like, even with the low budgets of classic Who, they never said "We don't have the resources to tell that story". Which is why it looks like campy shit, and I can't get into it. I adore TOS, on the other hand, but even then, prefer to view the recent remastered versions.

Actually all you did was insult the intelligence of everybody born after 1980. You might not have intended to, but that's all your post really says.

Yes, a random person you don't know made a possibly-defined "disparaging" remark about people born after 1980 in one more of an ironic, dry posting line he is already known for. Everyone born after 1980, please be offended now.

......okay, are you good? Good. Can we get back on the subject, please? :)

Niche doesn't now, nor has ever had, an acute.

I know - which is why I changed it after my brain fart in my second post. I left it alone in the first one because it just felt wrong to go back.

Oh well, at least I never transpose "then" and "than", like they're interchangeable.

Sorry that I didn't feel like agreeing with you after you came at me like I had shit on your grandmother's grave. I'm funny like that.

In other words, "apology accepted".

Oh and btw, anybody who compares "Casablanca" and vintage film noir or Hitchcock to '60's Dr Who needs to get some perspectve.

See? I'm not the only one who can't read "tone of voice" in a forum posting. Odd, that... Though, you're rather touchy, aren't you? I'm questioning what you were saying (or what I thought you were saying) not attacking you personally. (And I hardly think one post constitutes "coming at you"...)

Oh dear, comprehension skills again...

Still, moving on...
