Dr Pulaski's Final Episode (Spoof)

I liked Pulaski better than Crusher. I was told McFadden took a season off for maternity leave, not fired as someone stated. Ms. Muldaur was brought in fully aware that she was a temporary replacement. Can one of our experts verify this?

Pulaski was the only character with the hutzpah to say what she meant- not using PC-speak. Her Data bias was a refreshing contrast to the others. Perhaps this is why my two favorite characters are Dr. Pulaski and Capt. Jellico!:techman:

Nah, as far as I know, her 'maternity' leave wasn't until around 'Remember Me'. They had to film her very carefully for that episode.

Actually in Remember Me she was in the beginning of her pregnancy. She actually filmed all of her own stunts in that episode if I remember correctly.

It was later on in Qpid and The Host where she is heavily pregnant and as far as I know she never had to take maternity leave from the show.

She was "let go" after the first season and according to Paramount it was because they felt the character was not developing the way they wanted it too. There are many reports that claim she was fired for causing trouble with the writers and there is also a sexual harrassment allegation in there too.

By the third season the general public and Patrick Stewart himself wanted her back and Paramount asked her to return.

This is what I know, if I am wrong someone feel free to correct me :)

Rick Berman states his is interview with the Archive of American Television that McFadden and first/second season executive producer Maurice Hurley could not stand one another, and that he wanted her gone. Hurley is also the person that has been mentioned as having been involved in the sexual harassment allegations. In any event, Hurley got his way, and she was let go.

At the end of season two, it was decided that Pulaski wasn't working out. By this time, Hurley was on his way out the door, and it was up to Berman to decide whether to cast a third doctor or bring back Crusher. He lobbied for Crusher's return, Roddenberry gave his blessing, and she came back.

Canuck, you're absolutely right. Which means both our points stand. Her pregnancy happened MUCH beyond the end of the first season!:) So I think we can put that rumor to rest.
