Doug Jones IS that Orange Guy, Lt. Saru... Discuss here

It seems like a lot of the adoration people have for Doug Jones is unearned in this role. People like him because he did CGI/mo-cap characters in Hellboy and Fantastic Four. Kind of like a poor man's version of Andy Serkis

Not an insult. Everyone's raving: "Saru... it's Doug Jones, guys!!! Doug Jones is amazing. Therefore the new character is great." I don't think it's a great character.

He is kind of a lower-profile Andy Serkis-type. There, I didn't call him a poor man's Serkis this time.

How can Doug Jones simultaneously be low profile and the reason everyone loves Saru?

Seriously, that may be a reason among us who have been following this show for months before it was released, but it seems like most people like this character but have no clue who it is (you know, just like all of Doug Jones' other roles).

Have you never seen a gazelle?

Funny you should ask. When I was in my early twenties on a trip to East Africa I saw a gazelle giving birth. It was truly amazing. Within minutes the baby was standing up, standing up on its own. A few more minutes and it was walking and before I knew it, it was running alongside its mother, moving away with the herd.

There's no way in Stovokor that Saru could have ever passed his Academy Psych Evaluation. He'd still be in the corner pissing himself. There's only 2 ways they can go with him. Make him overcome his cowardice over a long period or just use him as the guy that votes the opposite of the brave starfleet officers. The former could be interesting if they take the time to develop him.

Cowardice? He's cautious not a coward. Some of the deadliest animals on the planet are prey species.

I like Doug Jones a lot. I don't like the Saru character but I think he is improving.
