Door-to-door Jesus Freaks

aftermath

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Had two youngish men knock on my door a short while ago. After seeing them off with a discussion about gay rights I actually pitied them for a few moments. Spending days knocking on doors in the name of a rather elaborate work of fiction is a rather sad way to pursue one's life.

But then again, one could also argue sitting here writing Java code all day is an equally sad way to pursue one's life, so I guess that makes me and Jesus Freaks even.

I slam the door. I hate it when people go door to door. Very annoying. I don't need "God" in my life; i'm just fine as i am so i don't appreciate them bothering me. Usually during breakfast too so i'm already pissed. I just wish they would just leave us all alone.

It doesn't really bother me, but I am particular about who I will let inside. I am always polite, but only until I am crossed, such as if one were to make oneself unwelcome.

I don't like the intrusion or the thinly veiled notion that according to "them," my beliefs are wrong and for being what i am, i'm gonna go to hell.

I know what you mean. If I'm in a bad mood, I'm still polite, but I will ask them to leave. If I'm in a decent mood, I'll let them finish, thank them, and then politely ask them to leave. If I'm in a good or really good mood, come right on in.

I never let them finish. I will take their pamphlet (there's always a pamphlet), and I ask them to leave.

Well first off you started off with Jesus freaks, then led into this. So it's hard to take you very seriously.

I find them very fascinating. Annoying? Yes. But they believe in something very strong and I wish more people had their conviction than not.

^Not me. I wish a lot FEWER people had this type and level of conviction. I think the world would be better off without it.

I love it that you're already pissed at breakfast time ;)

I quote from a previous poster (sorry forgot name) a while ago ... "I am very happy with my religious provider at the moment and am not looking to change" :D A most excellent, and polite, reply.

I find the concept a bit fascinating. I really want to see statistics on how many people they actually manage to convert.

Well it's 5 o'clock somewhere. ;)

And that's an excellent line! I'll have to use it.

Hey, I got a free Book of Mormon out of a couple of cute guys once. Don't think I ever got around to leafing through it looking for the good parts though...

Had I been bolder, perhaps I would have offered to show them the true Face of God.

Ironically, this wasn't even while I was in my own home; I was house-sitting for friends.
