"Doom's Day" multi-media event coming later this year.

Well, Sooz Kempner is pro-trans rights. So, I would guess, is just about everyone currently else involved with Doctor Who in any of its forms, given the trans representation on TV and audio and in print. Sooz herself isn't trans and the story isn't about transness (is that a word?) as far as I know, so why would criticism of it be seen as uniquely Linehanesque? Am I missing something?

I thought the comic books were pleasant enough, but yeah, the rest has been pretty subpar, even allowing for the fact that it’s mostly been in media that aren’t conducive to meaningful storytelling. They’re not trying to build Doom up as a character, so it’s hard to get invested in whatever she’s doing.

it’s baffling that they’re barely using the Doctor, even in media where they don’t have to pay one of the actors. Say what you will about Time Lord Victorious, the Doctor was at least in a good chunk of the stories.

Big Finish have just announced details of their box set. which has Jackie Tyler in one story and the Eighth Doctor and Charley in another, so that has some potential, at least.

Saw a picture of the cover online and it looks embarrassingly bad.

They definitely spent more on that recent sonic screwdriver CGI for its own promo... quick audiences, watch that again and droooooooooool! (Is this really made by the same production team? Seems unlikely...)

I've lived through 1960s Doctor Who in the 1980s when B&W mono audio television was derided regardless, and ditto for many 1990s CD-ROM games with motion video clips embedded as part of the thrill, so the cheesy CGI isn't as off-putting, but even those comparative materials did a better job with corny token material. Better acting too, no exceptions. Even Sarah Silverman did a better job at acting in the Voyager episode. That said, I am keeping in mind that a bad performance here doesn't mean performances in other shows aren't any better or worse. She's just "phoning it in".

Is this like "Family Guy" where they exaggerate the length of jokes in some twist of irony that the real joke is the person guffawing for all 68 seconds while Peter yelps over his knee being hit?

Did a Gen X'er write that or a Boomer, if you're into that sort of thing?

Oh well, at least high-concept failures such as "Love and Monsters", "Fear Her", "Dimensions in Time", the music video for "Doctor in Distress", "Delta and the Bannermen", and a slew of others aren't deemed as bad anymore thanks to that promo.

I just looked it up. Okay, so it is a Big Finish thing - that explains everything. In that context, it's not as bad... Was surprised for a moment, though.

I've always had a soft spot for Delta and the Bannermen, particularly for Ray who was originally going to replace Mel. I don't feel too bad we didn't get her as the next companion since we got Ace instead, but sometimes I wonder it would've been like to see more of Ray.

Delta and the Bannermen is one of the only good 7th Doctor stories in my opinion, and the only good one from when he was still The Doctor and not just The Master pretending to be The Doctor (aka he was a nice guy who played spoons and not a psychopath who kidnapped and tortured a teen girl for no reason).

Love & Monsters, in my opinion, is still the worst Doctor Who episode/thing, both for the content of the episode and for having the darkest fate of any character in the franchise, a woman left as nothing but an immortal face in a brick that (according to the episode) is only good for talking and, its heavily implied, mouth based adult activities.

Fear Her is also just as bad as it always was, a guest kid actor who is easily the worst in the franchise combined with a garbage story and a stupid alien/monster leads to 45ish minutes of agonizing garbage, although I guess a few episodes have surpassed it on the bad scale in recent years (episodes like Zygon Invasion/Inversion, Kill the Moon, In the Forest of the Night and Kerblam, for example, all are technically better made but have worse ideas/messages).

Doctor in Distress I've always thought was somewhat charming 80s cheese. Dimensions in Time is an absolute insult to Doctor Who as a franchise, and tying it into a soap opera just sucks, but at least we get a bit of Doctor who crossover we've never gotten (6th interacting with Ace, etc) which gives it some value.

OK, after reading Extraction Point, I'm thinking one of two things:

1) Doom inadvertently assassinated an ancestor of hers (or was set up to) at New Venice, and she's less than 24 hours away from disappearing from history, Marty McFly style. That or...
2) She accidentally assassinated herself, 24 hours in the future.

Either way, the Doctors she's met so far (It's confirmed the Doctor she first met was One) have been sympathetic... but far from helpful. "We warned you, you did it anyway, now you've got to live - or, rather, not live - with the consequences."

The larger arc, if there actually is one, seems to be Doom slowly coming to terms with her imminent demise and finding herself increasingly striving to do some lasting good for the universe in the time she has left. While clinging by her fingernails to the fraying hope that she'll find One and he'll somehow undo whatever's about to kill her.

Question. Is anyone who is 'collecting' Doom's Day annoyed that one hour is apparently a sub-game on some app thing? I know I would be.

(And Orcini was played by the wonderful William Gaunt, @Nightowl1701, so I can forgive the character a lot... :adore: )

Considering it's a horrible game, yes, I'm a bit peeved, not least because if you don't spend money it's hard to complete in the amount of time the game event was available. I didn't get very far. I believe there are people posting screencaps of the relevant content but I don't think there's much substance to it. I got some of the first few bits on my phone.

Well, those got a bit more shrunk than I expected.

"I'm Doom, deadly assassin and fixer of all kinds of delicate situations."
"Ominous name... what brings you here? Any job?"
"Somebody asked for pirate clean-up and here I am, doing the job."
"I placed the ad, mistress. I thought it could help."

It looks like it's on Youtube and there are legit and less-legit ways to save the download if someone were trying to "collect" it. From what I understand, it's a so-called "idle game" so there's very little interaction lost by just watching the cut scenes.

I'm only interested in this because I want to know why Thirteen has K-9 again, but I doubt they bother to explain.

Well, you said it saves you getting the game, not time. :p

And yes, I nearly added it spoiler tagged as well, I will next time...
