Spoilers Doom Patrol - DC Universe Series

That's fine man but get over yourself if you think I was trying to talk down to you taking time out to try to sell you on the series. Go pontificate in some other thread.

We come to an end of a pretty successful first season and it does so in what would we come to expect from Doom Patrol in extra bizarre fashion with lots of character moments. The big reveal that everyone saw coming worked for one episode but would be hard to ignore trying to go forward with the status quo in the (hopefully) next season. It makes sense that Nobody, like Mxyzptlk, had to have a hand in his own defeat. It's too bad we didn't get a little more onscreen from Flex Mentallo who made the most of his late entry into the series. I don’t know if it all came together perfectly but it was close enough.

Would Mr. Nobody's suit even be possible before HD? lol I remember Mick Jagger's shirt from Start Me Up making werid artifacts back in the day.

Only on Doom Patrol would you get a giant rat making out with a giant cockroach and it’s a plot point. Someone on reddit noted that LoT is like weed, Legion is acid and Doom Patrol is meth which seems pretty apt.
So that is a giant rat making out with a giant cockroach. I saw the GIF of Io9, and was trying to figure out if that really was what it looked like. Usually I'd figure it wasn't but I've heard enough about Doom Patrol to not rule anything out at this point.
The Legion comment reminds me that I really need to get caught up on that before Season 3 starts.

So this season we've gone inside a donkey's ass, inside of a giant rat's stomach and inside of a giant roach's stomach. This show is whacked. Sometimes I think the writer's are writing the show while they're high.
OK, the donkey's ass thing is a bit more grossout humor that I usually go for, but everything else I've heard about this show has sounded amazing, so I'm not going to let that scare me off.

^ For what it's worth, IIRC the donkey's flatulence creates a portal and later they enter the donkey through it's throat to access its pocket dimension. So a little less gross? In all seriousness, it's more about the weirdness and absurdity than simply grossout, I'd say that stuff probably adds up to no more than a minute or two of the whole series. Having the donkey portal introduced at the start of the series sets the audience expectations and boundaries for what follows so they won't be expecting a more "grounded" show. It also establishes a theme that magic in Doom Patrol is often incorporates flesh or organic elements (maybe a bit Clive Barkerish?) rather than reading words from a spell book or the like..

Oh, I thought you meant they climbed into the Donkey through it's ass, and we watched as they did it. What you described doesn't sound bad at all.

Overall, this was a really good season. It had a few problems, like one or two dud subplots, and was occasionally too gross (I really hope we never see Flex Mentallo again, all because of that horrible scene that the character caused with the people on/in Danny the Street), but overall it had good characters and a fun story that made me care about the characters. I hope it gets a second season. If the DC Universe service had more shows like this, it might have a better reputation. It feels so weird that Doom Patrol exists on the same service as the worst live action DC production ever made (Titans).

After their guest spot stint on Titans, Doom Patrol are launching into their own spin-off show!

The Chief, Robotman, Elasti-Woman and Negative Man will be joined by Crazy Jane and Cyborg in fighting the villainous Mr. Nobody. The first short teaser is out:

Show premieres in the US on the DC Universe streaming service on February 15th.
No international release dates and/or platforms announced as of yet.

Here in Canada, it'll probably be on Netflix, just like Titans is.

Something I might pick up on Blu-ray down the road. I have no interest in picking up yet another streaming service.

You better hope that it will be on Blu-Ray or 4K down the road, and that Warners won't only keep it as a streaming show.

Was just about to google if he's from the comics or made up for the show like Ezekiel the Cockroach, thanks for saving me the trouble. :D

I guess the Brotherhood of Evil that they mentioned are also a thing?

Yes, they are, and if the show follows the original comic book in its '60's run, the Brotherhood will do something to the Doom Patrol in the future that won't be so nice.

The press release for WBTV's schedule at this year's SDCC contains this blurb for the DCU panel:

DC Universe Sneak Previews

This two-hour event will include sneak peeks and first looks for Titans, Doom Patrol, the second half of Young Justice: Outsiders and the upcoming animated comedy Harley Quinn; talent TBA. (Indigo Ballroom).

Which would seem to indicate Doom Patrol has been renewed for another season. :techman:

It was aired on Space which is owned by Bell so I expect it will turn up on Crave which is also owned by Bell (just as was the case for Star Trek Discovery).

Which just leaves the question of whether or not DC Universe will still be around when it airs or if it will be on the WB service.

I'm sorry, but no matter how much you insist it isn't, I'm still going to believe sites like Deadline, Io9, and IGN a lot more than I am you.

Deadline has said nothing whatsoever about what DC Universe's future is, and io9 and IGN do not have the clout rhey once did.

And it isn't my opinion that there is no cause for concern in regards to DC Universe's future; it is stated fact as relayed directly from DC universe community moderators.

Glad to finally have a release date. I actually just checked earlier today, hoping it had come out and I had missed the announcement.
