Don't you love it when...

Lucy of Nine

Commander
Red Shirt
The away team consists of a few lead characters and one unknown person... you always know that poor unknown person is about to cop it!

Surely all the crews in all the ST series would have clicked on... lol...

"Hey, you're sending Chakotay, Neelix and Tuvok to investigate a strange anamoly on a seemingly uninhabited planet.. and you want to send me with them? Me? Ensign Jones? I've never even appeared on screen before, not even as an extra in engineering... Waaaait a minute.... something smells fishy here..."

They've been doin that since the original series. "the curse of the red shirt"

Very rarely does a somewhat "regular" guest gets killed. It's happened. Can't remember the times though.

Sometimes someone have to be put in danger to make the scene look dangerous. Of course they cannot kill main casts

Ah lol I think you're missing my point... :) I know they cant kill the main cast... thats why I think its hilarious! :)

They did once, in a TNG episode, Skin of Evil. they killed Tasha Yar.

One of the worst mishandlings of a character sendoff in Trek ever.

^ True. I think they were trying to make a point though that sometimes people die a senseless death. Also, it was supposed to increase dramatic tension since if Tasha Yar was killed then perhaps one of the other regulars could fall to the "Exxon oil spill monster".

At least I believe that was the premise but the execution didn't quite pull it off...

It's ensign Ricky. :p

Never mind being a nameless Ensign on an away team. You really want to panic when Chakotay saunters into the room and says to you "HEY I JUST SELECTED YOU TO BE MY CO-PILOT ON THIS AWESOME SHUTTLE MISSION!"

Of course, he'd never put that much excitement into it...

They brought back Joe Carey in the 7th season to kill off someone who wasn't an anonymous redshirt.

Really went out of their way on that one, did they not?

Ah, the evil oil slick monster that zapped Tasha. It's wonderful when Counselor Troi has a therapy session with it. If I recall they discuss the oil slick's anger and abandonment issues.

There were two others considered for that honor according to the companion:

- Vorik
- Samantha Wildman

Does it say anything about why they chose the way they did?

I can't answer about Vorik, but Neelix was more of a mom to Naomi than Samantha was.

At least, that's what the show leads me to believe :)

I thought I had successfully blocked that out of my brain but now it's back thankyouverymuch. ;)

** Off to look for brain bleach **
