Don't know if anyone else noticed but it's 2010...Where's the SDF-1?

Tyjos Azari

Lieutenant Commander

I'm wondering how many of you remember that this year the Macross Storyline has caught up with us.

April 2010

  • Zentraedi ace pilot, Miriya Parino, launches her first direct attack on the SDF-1. She meets defeat at the hands of Veritech ace pilot, 3rd Lieutenant Max Sterling, but escapes, vowing revenge.
  • Commander Roy Fokker, leader of the Veritech fighter squadrons aboard the SDF-1, dies as a result of wounds sustained in battle.

I should re-watch the show in honor of this occasion :D

Re: Don't know if anyone else noticed but it's 2010...Where's the SDF-

That's true it's sad it was ok.

So much has happened to Robotech all these years.

Last thing I watched related to it was Macross Frontier.

Re: Don't know if anyone else noticed but it's 2010...Where's the SDF-

Japan marked the Macross SDF "launch" date last year with a concert by May'N(Sheryl's singing voice from Frontier) and Megumi Nakajima(Ranka's VA/singer)

Although the real big anniversary concert was in October when they had singers from three different series for the Crossover concert. Mari Iijima (Lynn Minmei from Macross)
Yoshiki Fukuyama (Basara Nekki) & Chie Kajiura (Mylene Jenius) from Macross 7, and May'n & Megumi Nakajima from Frontier.

I think Robotech kept the same launch date so it took off in 2009 as well. I think the 2009-2010 timeline progresses pretty much the same more or less in Robotech's use of Macross and the actual anime.

I wonder how Tobey Maguire's Robotech movie is coming along.

Oh man do I feel old. I remember whne I first watched Robotech at the ripe old age of 16, 2010 seemed so far off. I cant believe its been its been 24 years.:(:(

Robotech and Macross aren't the same thing.

So true there isn't much of healthy community left aside for the delusionals at Robotech.com.

So much as in one 90 minute mediocre at best movie and Macross frontier has nothing to do with Robotech.

I think they're looking for a director, which kind of suggests there's a finished draft of the script. As suspected, the main bad guys are the Zentraedi.

Re: Don't know if anyone else noticed but it's 2010...Where's the SDF-

With the relative popularity of nuBSG, it's only a matter of time before this Robotech movie get's made.

I'm not familiar at all with the original Japanese version of Macross Robotech is...based on, or whatever you'd call it...but the American Robotech: The Macross Saga is very, very much like BSG...the last of humanity, civilians on a giant military fortress...running from a relentless enemy bent on genocide...eventually both sides have to unite, find a home...yup, very BSG-esq.

Re: Don't know if anyone else noticed but it's 2010...Where's the SDF-

Oh yeah...and fighter-plane spaceships, of course...

Macross is nothing like BSG the people that were aboard the SDF-1 were never the last of humanity even when earth was decimated by Zentradi bombardment as there were survivors. The Zentradi were never really bent on genocide.

Fighter planes in space have been done before BSG see Space Battleship Yamato.

Re: Don't know if anyone else noticed but it's 2010...Where's the SDF-

I'm finding that Macross is superior now to Robotech anyway.

But Robotech got me interested in macross so in a way it's still at least interesting to watch. I only watch the Macross Saga and the New Generation Saga. I skip over the Masters Saga.

I've played both the games that are out for PS2.

Battle Cry and Invasion.

I liked Battle Cry better than Invasion, just seemed it had a more Robotech Feel to it plus with the music made it better. Why they didn't use the Robotech Music in Invasion I don't know but it would have been better if it had that music.

Re: Don't know if anyone else noticed but it's 2010...Where's the SDF-

I couldn't stop seeing Robotech parallels when watching BSG. Heck, the wife and I (somewhat) recently watched the original Macross, and the similarities still jumped out at me. I can't wait to for our personal BSG Project Rewatch, which will in fact be her first time through the series, to see if she sees the similarities.

Re: Don't know if anyone else noticed but it's 2010...Where's the SDF-

Still the SDF-1 probably could whip Galactica's Butt in a fire fight.

Veritechs would probably easily defeat Starbuck and the Colonials.

Just fire SDF-1's Main cannon across the galactica's bow and Adama might just surrender right there at that level of fire power.

Heck the Macross Frontier Monster Destroid landing on the Galactica's Hull would be awesome and pointing the main cannons down....

Re: Don't know if anyone else noticed but it's 2010...Where's the SDF-

I wanted there to be one more Macross parallel in BSG and that was to see the Galactica crash-down on Earth ala SDF-1 into a lake.

Re: Don't know if anyone else noticed but it's 2010...Where's the SDF-

Where's the SDF-1? For all we know, all those things in the Robotech/Macross timeline already happened, but the media and the government have instituted an information blackout. :p

Re: Don't know if anyone else noticed but it's 2010...Where's the SDF-

I have always wondered what would happen if the SDF-1 RAMMED the Galactica.

With the pinpoint barrier system enabled, it would likely perforate the Galactica with no damage to the SDF-1.

Re: Don't know if anyone else noticed but it's 2010...Where's the SDF-

That'd be epic to see.

Macross going against Galactica.

But I'm sure Captain Gloval and Admiral Adama would long since before then negotiated a peace...or an Alliance.

Though I'd love to see Rick Hunter get into a Fist Fight with Starbuck. That'd be funny to see.

Same for Roy Fokker getting into a fight with Apollo.

well, the Zentradi haven't blown up 95% of the surface of the earth...yet
