The Robotech franchise is dead as a doornail. Good.
The Macross franchise is nearing it's 30th anniversary and another movie is being released later this year.

I'm quite ignorant of the difference between Robotech and Macross.
I just have fond memories of reading the Jack McKinney ( which I found out later was a pseudonym) Robotech books in high school. Great covers on those!

Tell me about it. Those books were a godsend when they first came out (I didn't have a VCR and the show had long since stopped running in my town by then). Loved those books and I still treasure 'em today....

Robotech is a combination of three different animes. They are Macross, Southern Cross, and something else that I forget. They did this so that there would be enough episodes to air in America or something like that. As it is, Macross (one of the shows that was used to make Robotech) continues on in Japan, and recently had an awesome new series added to its story.
I dont think its available fansubbed yet, as the Japanese DVD has yet to be released. It's understandable that you haven't had the chance to see it yet

We haven't been invaded by any monolith aliens, or signals from Jupiter....(or heard of any 9000 computers going haywire). Not that we would want anything like that to happen, of course.
Come to think of it, we also haven't had the moon blown out of orbit due radioactive waste...
(Let's keep that science fiction).
In regards to Robotech or Macross, the Earth was pretty much decimated by the Zentraedi anyhow before the SDF-1 (or SDF-Macross) blew up Dolza...or Bedolza...(depending on the version preferred).
