Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

I've got the processor, but the graphics card leaves me in the dust. Too bad it's a laptop and not upgradeable. :(

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Thank you for the kind comments. Donny is aware of my project and I am aware of his. He has offered input that I already knew but was correct. He is at a late stage in the finishing his project and I am still in the early phase of mine. If we collaborated it would slow him down and may threaten to cause him to break pace on his project. I have no desire to hinder anybody in their efforts. It's the old adage of too many cooks in the kitchen ruins the broth. By both of us working independently we can have a free hand to cover more ground. The more people you have looking at the same material means more scrutiny to flush out the bugs and potential errors. He no doubt can or could catch things I miss and same for me in return. Mytran has been also putting this stuff under the micro scope for a while now. So are many others. This is good. People as well usually don't work together well unless there is a paycheck involved. That's just different styles, methodology, project goals to be achieved in order. My current goals to do within the project are things he no doubt dealt with long ago on his. ( like the remaining sets I have to build which he in CGI has already done. So helping me work out stuff he has already done would be great but also could slow him up which tests patience of anyone throwing themselves into their work bent on getting it out as fast as they can. Plus he has CGI skills which I lack. So to compensate I am having to do all this old school with a friend I work with eho has volunteered to scan in all my work and author the PDF file / files for this project. So here us another area where I could potentially slow Donny down which I prefer not to do. That could irritate people waiting for his release if they felt I slowed him down. The man should have a free hand to do his work and a full open road out in front of him to allow him to go to town and be free to do it the easiest and best and fastest as he wants. I feel that way about everyone who takes it upon themelves to do their home work and apply themselves. He deserves the credit for his work as do others.

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

^What he said. Plus, I like to think that these boards ARE the collaboration! If you view this thread, you'll see that I am in no way doing all this alone. Many people on the boards have offered their input and insight, which has helped me immensely at making these two projects as accurate as possible. I might do all of the CG work, but it's the collective research of the Trekbbs community that's chugging this project along!

BTW, Robert Simmons, keep up the good work!

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

All right. Finished work on the bridge today, in the standard lighting configuration. I will come back later and build a "red-alert" version, complete with some different viewing screens. However, I must move on, as I'm approaching burn-out on this area. It'll be nice to tackle another area of the ship.

So, here are the final "beauty shots", so to speak. Enjoy :)

I've said it before, that is superb work, thank you for sharing!

Dare I ask what's next?

The transporter room. I need something that won't take 2 months to complete to recharge my batteries ;)

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

These look great. Color me impressed.

But I'm confused. I thought the science station in TMP was directly behind the captain's chair, and moved to the "right hand" spot in TWOK.

In TMP, for me, it's hard to tell onscreen where the stations are.

I understand that Spock should (naturally) be at Kirk's right hand, but the TMP bridge is visually hard for me to get a handle on.

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

I can't say enough times how awesome your work is, Donny. I'm truly in awe of your talent.

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

How do you like that? As I scrolled down, looking at the last set of renders, halfway through, I realized I was humming the score from TWOK. Now, that's a good sign!

My renders are meant to represent the layout in TWOK, not TMP.

I've been humming the TWOK score for about two months now, nonstop. ;)

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Looks fabulous, you deserve a rest indeed!

I'm probably a little slow to realise this, but is that both the Prefix Code display AND the controls over there on the weapons station?!? I always assumed it was over on the science console, for some reason.

That explains it then. Thanks. :techman:
