Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

^ and this was in one of the other TMP image collections at trekcore.

Nice find! Thanks, Terror Grin!

Here's my reference sheet (minus the one Terror Grin just found) for anyone interested, comprised of the best images I could find. Some were adjusted for brightness and contrast so the details are more visible.

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

I'm not sure if you checked out The Battle for reference shots, but there's a nice low shot of the base of the chair here, and a closeup of the metal strip on the blue TVH chair here. Another nice one here showing that the left-hand control panel survived, even if it didn't look too exciting. Certainly no lights.

If you ever do a Star Trek IV paint job, The Battle is arguably better for reference material than the snippet we saw in the film! Though obviously it was repainted to serve as the Battle Bridge in between.

I never thought about that! I'll remember that if I ever do a TVH version...

Anyway, whipped up the controls. You can't tell from the screenshot, but like the rest of the bridge controls, they cycle through a blink pattern. I'll try and get a video uploaded after the bridge is completely done so everyone can see the animations...

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Very nice Donny
:techman::techman::techman::techman::techman: It's always been the favorite Captain's chair for me.
it would be the one where i'd like to get some good schematics to do a do it your self prop build of her

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Hey, with all of this research into more accurate button layouts for the consoles and chair etc, you could easily make a revised Bridge Manual.

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

As promised, here is a short video so you can see everything in motion, particularly the animated consoles and viewing screens. I've still got more viewing screens to create, but I wanted to take some time to go ahead and show you guys what's up. Enjoy!

Got some of the more complicated viewing screens completed tonight. All are based on actual view screens seen around the bridge in The Wrath of Khan.

Fantastic! Love the sound effects too, it totally sells it.

Com-pic for you on the hyperchannel...

Thanks. The sound effect is unfortunately more correct for use on The Reliant instead of The Enterprise, but it will have to do. It's the only clean sound effect file I could find that is period-correct.

Oh, how I wish "comm-pic" would've been used further than this one movie...

[EDIT] As a side note, most of these animations (all except for the second viewing screen in the video above) are implemented by having actual live particle effects or other graphics elsewhere in the map file, with a camera object positioned near them. The camera object feeds a live view to these viewing screens.

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

^That's really cool. Sometime when I have a computer that isn't as old as the hills, I'd be interested in taking a crack at learning how to do this sort of thing.

So what game would one need for to run this when you release it?

None. It's not a mod. It'll be a standalone program. A hefty one at that, as it will have to contain the core Unreal 4 engine files. Also, a beefy computer will be needed, as Unreal 4 is a next-gen engine. Or is it now current gen? ;)

cool the system requirements don't look that stiff but YMMV:
  • What are Unreal Engine 4's system requirements?

Here's what we recommend to get started developing with UE4 right now.
    Desktop PC or Mac
Windows 7 64-bit or Mac OS X 10.9.2 or later
Quad-core Intel or AMD processor, 2.5 GHz or faster
NVIDIA GeForce 470 GTX or AMD Radeon 6870 HD series card or higher
    8 GB RAM

What Paramount's licence says about fan made games?
