Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Sooooo... It looks like that's the set as built. It's probably pretty hard to do an alternate that fits in the actual shuttlecraft. (And makes more sense as a vehicle anyway.)

Way nice, of course.

Wow!! Just absolutely stunning work (as usual).

Glad to see you are back at it!!! These look fantastic and as you know; I LOVE the shuttlecraft & TOS computers!! :)

Actually, as of right now (I have yet to build the aft compartment) this fits somewhat comfortably inside a 26 foot shuttlecraft. However, the windows present a problem (there is no way to line them up properly with the interior and still maintain a modicum of accuracy of the sets as built) so they are going to represent sensors/screens instead of windows. The other non-accurate representation that arises out of marrying the exterior with the interior is the fact that the exterior hatch ends up being much larger than the interior hatch, so I'm devising sort of an airlock instead, with an exterior hatch, an interior hatch, and a small compartment between the two.

It still remains to be seen if I can successfully pull this off without severely altering the sets from what we see on screen, but so far it's looking at least doable.

There's also the disprepency between the upper doors of the exterior prop (they slide in and then sideways) and the upper doors of the internal set (simple pocket doors).
An airlock marries these two door types together nicely

The only problem I'm running into in this airlock type setup is that the lower inner door doesn't have adequate room to fold outward without colliding with the exterior shell. I'll have to come up with a solution for that.

The lower door on a hinge will be a problem anyway unless you plan to make the airlock section really wide. Otherwise, where will the person stand as they close the inner door?

I know it's less screen accurate, but it might be better to make the whole inner door a shooting pocket design.

Looking at those moulded plastic seats, I have to wonder how comfortable they would be for long shuttlecraft journeys. Or at least, how sweaty they would get ;)

I've modeled Burke chairs before. What I didn't know how to do back then was surface them. Which you've done beautifully. Nice job.

No kidding. Not TOS's most practical set. (Which is why I never have a problem when people dink with it.)

I've reached a new level of insane detail. I modeled the attitude display indicator the producers snagged from military surplus to use in the console of the shuttelcraft.

Still some tweaking of the textures I'm using for the console, but couldn't wait to get these shots on the board. And please note I'm going for how the shuttle interior appeared in the season 2 episodes "The Doomsday Machine" and "Metamorphosis", and NOT it's later appearance in "The Immunity Syndrome"
