I know in an interview with Shane Johnson about Mr. Scott's Guide that he claimed only the portion shown in the film had been redecorated, but then there's this behind-the-scenes photo of Gene and Majel sitting at the science station (which is off-screen), so clearly more work was done.
Regarding those fixtures:
At the beginning of TMP, there were no lights or bulbs in those fixtures as seen here: http://movies.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/tmp2/tmphd0641.jpg
But then, sometime upon entering V'Ger, some magically appear with what looks like lightbulbs: http://movies.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/tmp2/tmphd1781.jpg

However, I find no examples of these "bulbs" being lit at all in the movie.
By the end of the movie, the bulbs are gone: http://movies.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/tmp2/tmphd2786.jpg
In TWOK, there are no bulbs, nor any light coming from these fixtures, except for the one in the close-up:

And then in TSTS, some of these fixtures clearly have light emitting from them:

This has been a lesson in Star Trek sets, brought to you by Donny![]()

There's a publicity spot from TVH where the cast was interviewed on the "new" bridge where you can see how much was finished on the port side -- almost to the viewscreen it seemed. I thought maybe it was Good Morning America but it was another similar show.
All that's missing is chairs and people.
Ya'know, I think I can live with that. Of course, TOS did also feature real pipes and doodads as well as the "shrink-wrap" cover plates so the focus wasn't on them exclusively. But anti-dust cover or not, it still seems really dangerous to have machinery exposed on the Transporter Room floor like that!Well, to be fair, those pipework "greeblies" we saw mounted upon the bulheads of the TOS corridor sets also looked like molds rather than actual hardware. So TMP just continued the "tradition".
(My "in universe" explanation for those TOS pipework panels: they are a kind of "shrink wrap" memory plates.
Any idea? It looks so familiar, like I've seen it somewhere, but can't place it.

(Wow, just noticed more SONEXclassic acoustic foam panels used for the TNG production.)
No way are Picard's GNDN PADDs the same as the ones on TWOK, they are way too thin! The picture I was thinking of was actually in "Star Trek Phase II: The Lost Series" but not as helpful as I thought, since it only shows the interior workings:
