Here's the texture for the console displays (down-sized, of course). Because the weapon's console that appeared in TMP-TSFS was indeed NOT in the Enterprise Flight Manual, I had to piece these together by studying the few up-close shots of these displays as seen in TWOK.

Most of the wording and abbreviations are spot on, but some were just off camera enough or too small to read in all my available references. So, I had to make my "best guess" on a few of them. For example : "RANGE ADJUSTMENT", "ARM TORP" and "LOAD" on the photon torpedo load panel, and "DEFENSE FIELDS" on the deflector screen panel.

If anyone has any photos or idea of what these words actually are, please send them my way!

Hey what's the big idea putting Reliant's prefix code on your interweb images?! That's a big security risk you know!

I would like to point out that the "16309" image is just temporary to showcase the console. It won't read those numbers in the finished product.

I'd be pretty certain you took this scene into account, although it's just the (inappropriate) visual reaction to Kirk's order to "dive" the Enterprise, right?

OTOH, there is the very real possibility of raising the bar on the Enterprise exteriors, given the talent demonstrated in this thread.

Besides, you aren't gonna deny peeps a wing-walk, are you?;)

Well, Kirk does say "Standby photon torpedoes" right after giving the order to "dive", so showing that panel makes sense. However, by the instructions given on this page of the flight manual, it was technically showing someone unloading the torpedoes.

And, I just realized that they misspelled "Torpedoes" throughout the panels....

They must load them on the hanger deck.

If it's not getting too old by now, great job on these Donny. Hope you're enjoying making these as much as we enjoy looking at them!

Might I add I'm glad you feel comfortable posting these without watermarks; I think the guy who was hijacking your stuff before is long gone.

Although the second part of Kirk's order was to "Arm photon torpedoes", Chekov should've moved the sliders up instead of down:

Glad to see the EFM being used as a reference for these; I just love that document. That's what I enjoy most about the PII - TSFS bridge set; as quaint as it seems today the sheer amount of verisimilitude designed into the instruments is amazing. Meyer genuinely seemed to have the most fun with the set (not that he had much choice; how much of the movie -- between the simulator, Enterprise, and Reliant -- took place on that set?), showing off much of the functional switchgear, the slide-out weapons console viewer (on Reliant), the damage control console, the helm yaw, pitch, and roll displays, etc. I think he even showed the roll-out science station consoles in motion; can't remember if Wise ever did that.

If you ever feel like it; I'd enjoy seeing your extrapolation of what all 360 degrees of the briefly seen TVH bridge would have looked like. Supposedly only the small sliver seen on screen at the end was finished, but I suspect much more actually was, maybe minus the viewscreen.

Damn, beat me to it; so that's what the refresh button is for... :wtf:

Nice; well played sir. :techman: Those movies were the opposite of verisimilitude...

Yeah, I always loved what Nicholas Meyer brought to The look of Star Trek. Glad they brought him on board so much during the movies.

You can see Spock's roll-out consoles in motion in TMP, btw, right when Spock first come on board the Enterprise.

I'd love to do a build of the TVH bridge later, when I feel like making a bunch of view screen images again. Pretty exhausted from this one already!

I really wanna do a Reliant version as well, with its cool auxiliary panels and blue trim.

Ah, yes sir. I do enjoy doing this. Very much so.

I've seen estimates that about 2/3 of the film takes place on that set, and I'm inclined to believe it.

I know in an interview with Shane Johnson about Mr. Scott's Guide that he claimed only the portion shown in the film had been redecorated, but then there's this behind-the-scenes photo of Gene and Majel sitting at the science station (which is off-screen), so clearly more work was done.

Wow! What a find. So let's see. It's confirmed through photo evidence that they redressed the helm, comm station, internal security station, science station, and damage & repair station.

Then, in Shane Johnson's Mr. Scott's Guide, there are also samples of graphics that were created for all the other stations (engineering, environmental control, and weapons & defense) except for the gravity control station.

I'm willing to bet that they redressed the entire bridge and somewhere along the line Shane got his facts screwed.

Either way, it seems such a waste that they only used so little in TVH.

EDIT: On another note, I just noticed the other day that the "environmental control" station and the "damage & repair" station traded their TWOK positions in TSFS (and now TVH). Never caught that before.

Interesting...looks like they snapped that photo before they installed those big silver support struts between the wall segments - that is, unless they only had those supports installed within the shot's field of vision and the science station area was never intended to be filmed. A last-minute add-on, perhaps? Weird - the high-def images really show the flaws in the floor tiles, which I never noticed before.

Ah, flaws in the floors. ;)

This is their 4th film outing, remember, and probably never under such unforgiving harsh lighting before

Donny -- Amazing work! I am so happy to see this project again. The TMP-TWOK refit
is my FAVORITE interior, and I love seeing this every day.

@ Mytran -- that has to be the most brightly lit version of the bridge from all the movies. One think I've always wondered is if those circular greebly things along the outer rim of the ceiling always had lights in them, or if those were added later (during TSFS)? If it was the latter, it was rather serendipitous those greeblies made such good fixtures for recessed lighting. I don't remember there being lights in them in TMP or TWOK, but maybe they just weren't used. From what I read they had to keep the light levels very low in TMP because the displays all used rear projections and the images couldn't be seen if it was too bright. So it is possible they were there from the beginning, but couldn't be used in the first film. Meyer wanted a darker atmosphere for TWOK, but with CRTs replacing rear projection, having more light wasn't as problematic. Either way, it would be interesting to know if those were originally created with lighting in mind, or if it was only to add some more detail for the set.

    Regarding those fixtures:

At the beginning of TMP, there were no lights or bulbs in those fixtures as seen here: http://movies.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/tmp2/tmphd0641.jpg

But then, sometime upon entering V'Ger, some magically appear with what looks like lightbulbs: http://movies.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/tmp2/tmphd1781.jpg

    http://movies.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/tmp2/tmphd1455.jpg

However, I find no examples of these "bulbs" being lit at all in the movie.

By the end of the movie, the bulbs are gone: http://movies.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/tmp2/tmphd2786.jpg

In TWOK, there are no bulbs, nor any light coming from these fixtures, except for the one in the close-up:

    http://movies.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/twokhd/twokhd0442.jpg

    http://movies.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/twokhd/twokhd0035.jpg

And then in TSTS, some of these fixtures clearly have light emitting from them:

This has been a lesson in Star Trek sets, brought to you by Donny ;)

Those light fixtures have some seriously excessive moulds surrounding them!
TBH, that's something that always turned me off the TMP refit; so-called detail that actually looks like plastic moulds, even at a medium distance (esp. the Transporter Room floor). I've never seen TMP at the cinema but I must imagine it being particularly obvious.

Ranting aside, thanks for the history lesson! ;)

    Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Well, to be fair, those pipework "greeblies" we saw mounted upon the bulheads of the TOS corridor sets also looked like molds rather than actual hardware. So TMP just continued the "tradition". ;)

(My "in universe" explanation for those TOS pipework panels: they are a kind of "shrink wrap" memory plates. I reason with the need to repair systems, occasionally "jerry rigged" systems have to be added that can no longer fit behind the bulkhead panels. Thus a hole has to be cut to allow the added fixtures their needed room. But rather than let the pipes and other gizmos to be exposed where they might get damaged, these "plates are positioned over the area and then "stimulated" in some fashion to contract closely over the mechanisms. True, a simple "box" could cover them, but those usually take more space than is required and can act as a potential hazard for crew and equipment being relocated. Plus, their distinctive shapes help serve as visual cues as to kind of repairs or modifications were performed at that particular spot.)

    Yeah, I'm overthinking this, aren't I?

    Sincerely,

    Bill
