Yeah, I think you're correct as well. What I referred to as "the ornate conic part up top" definitely looks like a tassel now that you're calling it that. When it comes to my project though, I think I'll leave it oriented with the tassel up to mirror (no pun intended) what we saw on more occasions and in the third season (although I'm debating whether or not I want to switch my entire project to a more accepted Second Season appearance throughout)
Just a thought at the moment. Doubt I'll go through with it, as I don't want to sacrifice the dilithium chamber in the engine room Also, here's the mirror after tweaking color and adding the "black tape" across the top of the hexagonal mirror.
Holy crap! You even have the fingerprint smudges around the mirror edges...you ARE insane! In the best possible way, of course.
I like attention to detail as much as the next guy, but don’t you think virtual Windex or tetralubisol might be a good idea?
Great job, and thank you for the process explanation, it was really interesting. By the way, my parents have a vintage wall decoration that is very similar in style to elements of this mirror. They are diamond-shaped, and just the sculptural parts, with no mirror, though.
What Lightmass settings do you use? This is the aspect of creating images in Unreal I struggle with most.
Default, actually. It should be noted this scene isn’t using light mass at the moment. I usually use dynamic lighting while working and do a light map bake when finishing the area. Kirk's standard-issue vanity objects. I can only surmise what is inside the cases.
Any chance you could go over your lighting setup at some point? It looks so real even without baking.
Now I'm picturing "Evil" Kirk applying make-up. "I'm not really this ship's captain, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night."
...And the last prop before I go to bed. It's been a productive Saturday! This one was a challenge but a lot of fun! I didn't sculpt everything you see. I used some third-party "ornate decoration" brushes for Zbrush to make the ornate details, so don't go complimenting my sculpting abilities just yet. Those brushes made it to where I can pretty much drag and drop ornate details onto a mesh. I just had to rearrange them nicely. However, it should be noted, that I in no way tried to perfectly replicate the exact ornate details of the canon chest. But I doubt anyone will mind that it's not an exact match . We see this ornate chest in the quarters of Kirk, Spock, and Rand
I am working for a company that makes exclusively VR content. Being limited on how detailed my model can be is very frustrating. For now, VR requires quite basic models. Awesome work as always, by the way.
