Donny's Late TNG Era Interiors

Huh, the view isn't that bad. Tested it with a Nemesis-era model I have my hands on. Looks best when standing in either doorway looking aft....

Down on the main level it's a little underwhelming.

I guess it just isn't as good composition-wise as the view from the Refit's VIP lounge.

EDIT: Here's Elite Force 2’s cheater, cheater, pumpkin-eater view (which is very similar to the angle of the refit's nacelles we got in TMP's shuttle docking scene)

And the discussed view out the D's observation lounge from the Interactive TNG Tech Manual. Dunno how accurate this view is since it was probably composited with an image taken slightly above the filming model’s lounge, as state upthread.

So it's better than the D's view, but not quite up to par with the Refit's view. Either way, I'll take it!

If anyone's work deserves plugging, Donny, it's yours.

I (not unusual, I admit) seem to be in a minority on this one: I think a view of the stars is the one wanted. Think about going on cruise (no, not the E-D lol), it's the cabins with unobstructed views of the lonely sea and the sky that cost the big bucks; the cabins overlooking the propellers are relatively "affordable."

I think my problem is that I want the view to be as spectacular and unobstructed as the actual view of the nacelles out of the Enterprise Refit's lounge (shameless plug of my own work within my own thread :p)

Here's my first pass on the observation lounge/ready room chairs. I know the orange is very "Nemesis" but I wanted to include it here just because the orange looks great ;)

Still some refinement to do on the textures (need to increase the intensity of the folds), and I have to model a low-poly version of the base, but it's close to being done!

Those are so nice.

Are they going to be rigged so when they move they make little clickey caster sounds?
For my purposes, they're just going to be static props, but I will have parameters built in to them to adjust or randomize seat height, lumbar support height, and headrest height, just to differentiate each of the 10 chairs in the observation lounge from each other to give a more lived-in and natural feel.

But now you've got me thinking I should add some light physics properties to them

You could make them do this.

I forget, which episode was this from?
Possibly In Theory - the same one which had the crewman fall through the floor thanks to "Portal" style voids randomly appearing all over the ship.

Hmm, we get a rare angle of the table legs in that pic. I never realised how many plant-ons they had!

Ok, done with the chairs. I spent the bulk of the day getting super detailed with the base for Pete's sake (because I have reference, and because I'm that kind of crazy)

I also think I finally nailed that elusive color of the ready room chair/Nemesis observation lounge chair (which appears maroon or a burnt orange, depending on the lighting angle)

Looks so real!

I feel like this might be the wrong time to mention that I once needed to replicate the chairs we used at work, and I found the manufacturer had 3D models available on their website for free (presumably for architects or other people laying out an office who might be planning a bulk purchase, because they sure didn't have any information on usage rights).
