Dominion Occupation: Would it have really been that bad?

As referenced in the occupation of DS9 people were still allowed to go about their business and it was far better than a Cardassian occupation.

So if the Alpha Quadrant powers had lost to the Dominion maybe Starfleet ships would still be allowed to explore the galaxy and stuff, even if it means having Jem'Hadar officers on board with a Vorta in command of it. And plus all the security and defense of the Alpha Quadrant powers could be left up to the Jem'hadar ships.

And people on Federation worlds would still be able to exist as they have just under Dominion control....

I know that wouldn't sit too well with the Klingons for one thing.

The Dominion was being a friend to Bajor because they needed to politically at the time to prove to AQ that they weren't 'all bad'. However I really don't think that if the Dominion had won the war they would have been as benevolent. Look at what they did to their supposed allies the Cardassians once they had the Breen in they're pockets.

Don't forget, Weyoun thought that organized resistance to Dominion rule would start on Earth so he told Dukat that it's population should be eliminated.

Yes they can be brutal in light of opposition. But if there was none, or at least for those not resisting they could be allowed to go about their business perhaps.

But that's just the thing. I don't think they would have let people go about their business. Regardless of resistance or not.

Their motto was always what you can control can't hurt you, maybe if they felt that had control over something then they would leave it be.

I guess we have different interpretations of that mantra though. I see the quest for control as one to control all aspects of a 'member' species lives. Again look at what they did to Cardassia. I don't see having control and letting the Federation et al operate as they did before. They would try to enforce order on the conquered worlds which would lead to resistance, which would lead to harsher Dominion reprisals. I still think the occupation of DS9 was civil for purely poltical reasions.

No it would be bad on everyone. Obv Damar/Dukat were already planning some action after the Feds were conquered.

Klingons and Romulans in their vast empires wouldn't be all exterminated-I doubt those ppls would roll over and give up

Tholians, Gorn, Tzenkathi though we don't know much about these species, they all seem very war-like and what of the Breen?
