What if Victor was the lead character of Dollhouse since the beginning and there was no Echo? How much would things have changed as a result?

That's an interesting question, it probably would have been more about Victor's attraction to Sierra and the fact he tends to go on romantic engagements and the like. Also interesting, is that the actor seems to be able to switch into a role quite easily and captures the...persona, quite well. Tonight's episode, I swear, he had the same speech patterns, hair style and facial expressions as the actual Topher.

I definately agree that Enver Gjokaj has frequently demonstrated himself as the most versatile performer on the show. More than any of the other Dolls, he completely immerses himself into each role, from the Russian rube Lubov to the suave Roger to even Mr. Dominic.
Now, in some ways, there are some stories that you can do with a female Active that you can't do with a male. To put it in primal terms, we're still very much hunters & gatherers. But while modern society allows women to be hunters in the name of equality, men still aren't allowed to be gatherers, lest they be classified as sissies.
On the other hand, a Victor-centric series would at least have less of the obnoxious weight of Whedon's fetish for empowering women by abusing them.

Well, ok, but versatile or not, he would have looked silly in Echo's dominatrix costumes.
Thank you. The creepy-factor in this series is just too high sometimes. But Victor is a very likable character---far more than Dusku. There's something about her that's very off-putting to me. But Melly and Sierra--I like them. It still creeps me out to people being used as sex toys and then having their memories erased, and the way that the show uses the women in these situations for entertainment is kinda----well, icky, for me sometimes. I also just don't buy that 90 lbs 5 foot 2 supermodel can beat the crap out of someone like Peniket. I just don't buy it. But maybe if it were a male lead, those rather ridiculous scenes would be less unbelievable.
Gjokaj certainly has the acting chops to be the center of the show, but then FOX wouldn't have the T & A to sell to the 18-25 male demographic.
Probably not entirely believable, no, but I think the idea behind that was, Echo was imprinted with hand to hand combat skills, more so then an already injured FBI agent Ballard had. She also had the element of surprise and the fact he didn't want to hurt her.
I think the creepy factor is one of the points, its supposed to be horrific.
Well, that's less my opinion than it is others. I'm just saying it would prevent other people from making that complaint.
I wonder how it would have played out with Victor in the Echo role and a woman in the Ballard role?
What would have happened? It wouldn't have gotten off the ground. The whole male hooker thing wouldn't have gone over too well. Enver Gjokaj has the ability to be a series lead in the not too distant future, just not with this concept.
You haven't been watching Hung on HBO? Thomas Jane as a Man whore? A show in which I am most confident that the scripts are a little better than some of the actors.
