Dollhouse S1 recap thread, discussion, DVD set and unaired episode.

Re: Dollhouse S1 recap thread, discussion, DVD set and unaired episode

It was a very interesting departure but if it continues from where it left off then a) it can't really be called Dollhouse any more and b) it will lose a lot of returning viewers due to the post-apocalyptic thang, which will turn off the average on-the-fence viewer. So the commissioning company won't go for it.

Sure it can be called Dollhouse. In the 2019 scenario its all flipped. Nearly the rest of the population is some form of Doll while the original House/Houses are now the "normal" people.

Re: Dollhouse S1 recap thread, discussion, DVD set and unaired episode

Just saw Epitaph and my god.. one of the dumbest decisions ever not to air it officially.

This is one of the best episodes Dollhouse has and easily makes up for the less well done episodes early in the season (to put it nicely).

It shows us so much about the future and what this technology is about and what it can do and i would love to see the show progress to catch up with the future (if it indeed happens that way).

For me the knowledge that it will turn out this way is not a spoiler.. i want to see the stories how all this develops and how the characters changed to reach that point and this alone made Dollhouse a show with great promise and no one in the position to make a decision about the show realized it?

Just do 2-3 more seasons to flesh everything out, make the timejump and show us the events post Epitaph One..

epitaph1 couldve been a great wrap up to the series had it never seen the light of s2 - but for me it served as to whet my appetite by showing me Joss' plan. (and opening up more questions) Now the journey from here to there will be the fun part.

so many questions unanswered - i hope s2 sheds some light.

i am not certain Alpha was behind
a- slipping messages into Echo and November for Paul or
b- sending that pulse thru the phone that wiped Echo's imprint early on in the series.

at least i need to find out why Topher programmed Whiskey/Saunders to hate him.

thank gods for Hulu - i wont have to wait for the next season of dvds

So it's Normalhouse? The fact the company didn't air it speaks volumes.

I'm not sure why FOX didn't air "Epitaph One." It kicks ass and it's not like FOX canceled the series. If they renewed it for a 2nd season, clearly they wanted more, so why not air everything you have?

Re: Dollhouse S1 recap thread, discussion, DVD set and unaired episode

Uhh they really really didn't like it?

Re: Dollhouse S1 recap thread, discussion, DVD set and unaired episode

Which is dumb considering most of the fans think it's one of the best episodes of the series.

Re: Dollhouse S1 recap thread, discussion, DVD set and unaired episode

'Most' being a few people on this thread? I thought it was interesting but I didn't like it. There's been too much doom and gloom recently,

Re: Dollhouse S1 recap thread, discussion, DVD set and unaired episode

Well, "most" meaning that yours is actually the first not-so-good review of it that I've seen. Obviously, I can't speak for everyone, but from what I've seen, it seems like a lot of people liked it.

They didn't air it because they didn't order it, the didn't commission it and they didn't pay for it.
It was commissioned/ordered/paid for by 20th Century Fox to flesh out the 13 episode package they'd sold internationally and to DVD. If they wanted to air it Fox Network would have had to pay for the episode.

Re: Dollhouse S1 recap thread, discussion, DVD set and unaired episode

the unaired pilot was interesting - it certainly started off better than the original - but there was something like 6 episodes of plot crammed in there - i can appreciate the slower simmering of the aired episodes - especially when it came to things like the reveal of Victor and not showing Saunders as such an oddity too soon.
Echo and Paul's taking awhile to meet was also better payoff, imo.

All in all, s1 wouldve much more intense if Joss had had his way (and we might have been spared "stage fright")
