Dollhouse origins

Hello all,

I was at the Calgary comic-con today and had the chance to listen to Tahmoh Penikett speak.

He mentioned that dollhouse was loosely based off a book that both he and Joss Whedon read.

He told us the name of the book, but I have completely forgotten it. It is written by a Japanese author

Please Help!!!

I thought it was "Joss Whedon's Little Girls Who Can Beat Him Up Fantasy", same book all his work is based on.

I had assumed that whedon had at least read Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan before he wrote Dollhouse. Even if the plot isn't at all the same.
