This is how Gracie sleeps most of the time
Sometimes she actually twists her head under her, so she is laying on the top of it.
My dog wasn't allowed on the sofa so when the folks went on holiday and I was dog sitting I would let Xena have free reign of the house and could sleep where she liked. In the mornings she would hear me coming down the stairs and would look at me as if to say do I have to get down from the sofa now. I would say good morning, give her a kiss on the head so she knew she wasn't in the dog house and leave her there but she would soon get up when she heard me making toast. Sometimes I would come down in the morning and she would be sprawled out on her back and fast asleep she didn't even hear me coming down the stairs. In her own little dream world and I would tip toe out of the room. Cherished memories.

Free rein--as in loosening up on the reins to let the horse do what it pleases.
If you were reigning (as in a sovereign), you would be pretty damn free already.

Xena never get the perks the ones before her did like being able to sleep on the sofa and access to upstairs but I tried to make up for that when I was dog sitting. It was like something out of the Simpsons and we would both have marathon DVD, snacking and snooze sessions.
OK, thanks. I went back forth about three times, and that the whole loosening on a horse's reins thing did occur to me, but then I was like "wait a second, maybe it a reference to a ruler being able to do whatever they want". That's the third time in a week I ignored by initial instinct and it backfired on me.
