The belly rubs!!!!

Nah, with Iris, her sweet spot is that one armpit, always has been since the day we adopted her.

When my ex-wife opened the door and let me into the house, Iris took a moment or two before she recognized me. And then she lost her shit, running around, jumping back and forth from the furniture, barking, howling (as only a hound can do), crying, just a complete meltdown. My ex-wife grumped and said, "I've never gotten a greeting like that," and I said, "No shit, you haven't let me see her for a year and a half and she was always glued to me when we lived together."

Iris then lost her shit again a few hours later when I got up and started putting my shoes and coat on.

I'm glad you got to visit with her.

Maybe you should if the ex will allow you to have the dog.

No, it would not, in any way, be fair to her. I can't drive because I have a bum leg. How would I get her to the vet?

Beyond that, she is a rescue dog from Tennessee, and it's very clear that she experienced a trauma before my ex-wife and I adopted her; anytime the smoke alarms went off or she smelled smoke in the kitchen, she lost her mind. I'm relatively certain that she was a survivor of a fire.

But my ex-wife and I bought a 1,900-square-foot house about five years ago. How would it be fair for Iris to move from having so much space in which to run to ... my shitty two-bedroom apartment?

Awww man @Timby ...I see your predicament. That’s rough. Sometimes what we want ≠ what is best for them and that SUCKS.

Archie (Shih tzu shown above) was my dog that I adopted when I lived at home with my mom. When I moved out after me and Ryan got married I brought Archie with me. It made sense since I adopted him.

We stayed at my mother-in-laws (5 minutes from our new house) for a few months while we were renovating the house and it got cramped since they had two dogs of their own, so I asked my mom if she could watch Archie at her house in NJ for a month or two while we were finishing up renovations and she agreed. She had a golden retriever named Cooper at the time.

Well, Archie and Cooper instantly bonded and became fur bros. When the time came to move into the new house, I couldn’t take Archie from Cooper. They were brothers. As much as I wanted him, I knew taking him from Coop would have been hard on them both.

And that’s how I ended up with a Chihuahua.

That's a bummer because she does seem to have a very strong bond with you.

Dogs love everyone in their family but they can also bond more with one person.

My brother originally bought out rottweiler there was also the bond between the two of them. When my brother moved out, the rottie stayed behind with the rest of the family but when ever he came home the dog when had the same reaction as yours.

Fred is probably going back to the vet. There’s more blood in his stool. The bloodwork came back with Severe Pancreatitis. I’m terrified. He just doesn’t seem to be getting better. He laid around all day and barely drank water. I’m scared.

I'm so sorry Tribble. I hope the vet can fix him up.
Me too. I just don’t feel as optimistic as I have. He seems significantly worse.

If Fred dies I don’t know if I’ll ever recover. I love him so much. I’m tearing up just thinking about it. I can’t lose him. He’s my best friend.

Archie seems to know he’s sick.
