Doggies, Doggos and Doggeroos!

Tell me about your tortoise!

He (Sam) used to get me into trouble. My parents told me off for taking him to my bedroom each night and I insisted that I wasn't,
One night, they kept an eye on him and shortly after I went up, he'd follow by wedging himself against the wall and stair and levering himself up. Unfortunately, he passed a couple of years ago. I'm not entirely sure how old he was at that point as my parents had him before I did.

As I recall, he was one of the Mediterranian Spur-Thighed types:)

:adore: I’m sorry he’s passed. It sounds like he was quite a character!

I almost got a Sulcata tortoise which is an African spur thighed tortoise. I realized that it might outlive me and I had other issues which made keeping a tootsie highly i practicable at the time but I’ve always been charmed by the idea. Friend of the family had one which keeps escaping from from the yard during the Summer! They’re quite clever!

He climbed the stairs?! That's one determined critter! Did your parents relent afterwards or did they arrange conditions to prevent further ascensions? I am genuinely curious. Were you the one who regularly feed him? I mean, did you possibly "hand feed" Sam. If so, then I'd reason he saw you as a source of food. BUT...if he simply ate from a bowl or whatever, different family members placing the food within reach, then I'd wonder, maybe, just maybe, Sam did actually "bond" with you. Hmm, how "social" are tortoises in nature, particularly this breed. If they are usually solitary, the events you've described is all the more fascinating.

I can imagine why he allowed the dogs to rest atop of him, body heat!

Where we were staying while on vacation, one of the chaps who lives there also had a tortoise. He'd done a runner on the day we left after escaping. (So far, all we know is that he didn't sneak into our baggage:) ) They are nice pets to have though:)

Our collie was definitely a mother-hen type. She was a rescue who'd been hit by a car and abandoned before we got her. :( Apparently, she was fairly normal before my parents brought me home, then her over protective mode really kicked in around me. She was also always waiting at the door when I got home.

We also had a terrapin who'd only eat out of your hand - and then try and jump off for a run around the living room until you could put her back in the tank:D

We all fed Sam, though he never bit any of us. He just nipped the dog to move her slightly. For some reason, the dogs and Sam did tend to bond with me. I guess he definitely was determined enough seeing as he did the stairs every night (until caught anyway). - After that and the family not blaming me anymore, we usually just took him up as he was going to find a way anyway. (I guess we could have shut a door, but if he couldn't open it, he would whack his shell against it til someone opened it for him)

My dad insists he's a dog person, but to cats, he's positively catnip:D

Husky's are such drama queens. The cat's having a laugh no doubt.

I always have huskies.
Yep, they can be dramatic.:ack::adore:

Had sibling huskeys living across the street from us. THey broke out of their yard every week to come play with our bulldogs. They never understood why Max & Tigger mostly wanted to loll about in the sun and sleep. They were great neighbors but their people parents moved to a farm to give them room to run.

I love neighboring pups! I always say if you don’t want doggo responsibility just move next door to someone with a dog. You can coexist without picking up poop!
