The Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer song has a very poor moral in it.

The moral is that people only like you when you can do something useful for them.

Santa's other reindeer ridiculed and outcasted poor Rudolph, treating him like dirty simply because he has a "shiny nose."

But THEN that "foggy Christmas Eve" comes around and they need someone to act as a beacon/fog light. Well, obviously, Rudolph is the only one who could suffice for such a task. And, sure, being the good man that he is Rudolph takes up the task.

But THEN all of the other reindeer loved him.

Well, screw THEM! Oh, NOW Rudolph is liked! Oh, NOW we're not making fun of his nose.

Whatever!

That is actually a good moral. Do not make fun of someone for being different, because they are someone special to someone :techman:

All the renideer wanted to ride with Santa. Rudolph got the chance :) to do something exceptional!

I guess it is how you look at it :D

Well, all the 'jocks' laughed at all the 'geeks' only to find that kicking a ball only makes very few people rich whereas coding html makes a lot of people quite well off…

same thing! - ?

Rudolph, to his credit, did not guide Santa's sleigh and all of the other reindeer to their wintery deaths. There's a lesson to be learned there, I suppose. Not one I necessarily agree with, but still...

And no one has a problem with Hermey yanking out the Bumble's teeth? Holy cow! Barbaric I say! :)
And Yukon brandishing a gun! Wow! :)

And what's wrong with that lesson? Life is too short to hang out with people who only take and never give anything back. Those are poor friends and they should be avoided.

As usual Trekker you missed the point...

So, then, please tell me the point.

Rudolph is an outcast, ridiculed by the other reindeer.

Something happens that makes Rudolph useful because of his uniqueness.

NOW everyone likes him.

So clearly they're trying to say people only like you when you can do something for them.

"Your differences are your strengths."

Not exactly in-depth exegesis, there.

I think revenge of the nerds told the story better....

Indeed. Because in that movie the nerds took their differences and made them strengths to beat the Alphas.

In the Rudolph song Rudolph's "differences"/"strengths" don't come into play until they are needed by those making fun of him. It'd be like if in RotNs the Alphas need to improve their grades to stay in the big game and then suddenly befriended the Nerds as tutors.

Santa never made fun of Rudolph. I don't know how you're managing to both overthink and underthink this at the same time. :p

No, Santa isn't one of those making fun of Rudolph but his "abilties" are needed by the team as a whole and the other reindeer are that team, "then all the reindeer loved him/as they shouted out with glee" and we could probably surmise that Rudolph wasn't part of the team driving the sleigh until Santa needed him on that foggy night which means that Santa is partly guilty for making Rudolph an outcast. And Santa should also be held responsible how the reindeer on his sleigh-driving team behave and treat others.

Oh I was always rather disappointed in Santa's behaviour toward Rudolph. He was actually a pretty big asshat, wasn't he? Making some "what a shame" comment or some such ugly remark.

Never quite liked Santa as much after that. Only liking the pretty reindeer. Pssht.

FYI...Actually, there were worries at the time of having a "red-nosed" reindeer in a Christmas tale for kids anyway because of the association of red noses with drunkenness *hic* :)
