Does the French Foreign Legion exist in Trek?

Does it exist in Trek? It would be a forebearer of many future interspecies millitary units. By the way i would like to see the story of an intergalactic, interspecies mercenary organisation's story set in the trek universe.

I was always curious about the Nyberrite Alliance, after Worf talks about possibly joining up to serve on one of their cruisers in DS9's "The Way of the Warrior." Are they a possible multi-"national" service, like a sort of foreign legion?

Has it ever made an appearance in any of the novels? If not, I would love for someone to feature them, if only to satisfy my selfish curiosity!

An Earth based mercenary outfit seems to be pretty much against the principals of The Federation.

Featuring the Nyberrite Alliance is a great idea The info on this group is very limited, an author could really flesh them out in a cool/interesting way. Awesome idea Kertrats

The Legion is more then mercs, They serve France and no other country.
