does the film heighten your appreciation of TOS?

Flying Spaghetti Monster

Vice Admiral

A non-fan friend of mine loved the film, and said he now wants to watch all of TOS

That's cool.

When you watch TOS do you think a bit differently about it having seen different actors play the roles?

Yes. After watching the film, all I want to watch now is TOS. Not even TNG, DS9 or anything else. So I'm fortunate Netflix has Star Trek Remastered Season 1 available for instant watch. :D

My girlfriend just tried to go through TOS. its not turning out to well :(

I wouldn't really say that the film changed my views on TOS. I already have a very high opinion of it (one which I dont think will get any higher) and I sort of view TOS in a category separate from Trek XI

In that TOS is infintely better than Abrams' take...yes.

The next movie is supposed to have a planet of 1920s gangsters and Abraham Lincoln both, so hang in there.

There will even be a scene where aliens who love Plato will make Kirk and Spock go all S&M, right before Apollo comes in and defeats the space Nazis.

Similar experience, friend of mine watched the movie and liked it, attempted to watch TOS and couldn't stand it. My gut feeling is that the movie is not going to bring in as many long term fans as many here would assume. Whatever appeal the new movie has is not shared with other parts of Trek, as the two are likely to attract different people.

I did suggest TNG to my friend, by the way, and the response was only slightly better :(

Yeah it does a little actually.

Don't get my hopes up. Abrams's take was sorely lacking in S&M and dead presidents.

The director's cut is supposed to feature some of the principal cast playing Strip Fizzbin.

That sounds a lot like me too (except that I just went out and bought the Blu-Ray set of Season 1).

One of the first things I did after seeing XI, was marathon the TOS movies. I only started rewatching TOS episodes this week. It was already my favorite series (and except for FC, I never liked the TNG movies).

I loved the movie, and in regards to what it did for my TOS love, it actually reminded me of what it felt like to watch and enjoy TOS for the first time. I use to come in from school and excitedly watch the reruns on SciFi channel, and I can still remember how much I enjoyed watching each episode for the first time. I felt that excitement again watching the new movie in the theater.

So yeah, I think it did increase my TOS love, a love that was already strong, but that is now stronger. :)

I could go for some of that! ;)

The film made me appreciate all the other series including VOY/ENT more than I had before. Flawed as they may have been, I'll take Berman Trek over Orci/Kurtzman Trek.
