Does Paramount no longer own Star Trek?

Personally, I'm still crushed that "frell" didn't catch on the way "frak" did.
I love "frell" (as well as pretty much everything else in FarScape)! "Frak" does sound more guttural and comes across as far more aggressive (especially whenever the likes of Saul said it), but is far more multi-function covering both 'fuck' and 'hell' all in one :)

It's amazing how much TV alters and expands ones profanity dictionary, for example I have found myself uttering "Holy shitsnacks!" more and more (thank you Pam Poovey).

A few years ago an Irish member of parliament on the government benches told two members of the opposition "Fuck you" in the parliament chamber. Caused a bit of a stir and people wondered if he would be sanctioned but turns out that was not classed as unparliamentary language. Now if he had called them a brat, scumbag or yahoo that would have gotten them into trouble.

He said in one of the MA threads he created and if you have the inclination, it's all public record and easily searchable. Plus it was shared down in the land that is not mentioned where goats and bridges are often discussed.

I don't think he was in prison. Someone mentioned here that you can get 14 years in prison in Canada for encouraging someone to commit suicide and in MA he told some story about his mother shouting at a kid and he told the police it was him who did the shouting and that did not get him arrested or 14 years in jail.
I think it was more the case of him not understanding the Canadian law than him spending time in prison.

Oh he certainly was, it would explain his massive gap in knowledge.

I always found it amusing when the old SW EU novels would use the fictional expletive "stang," which I think first appeared in Splinter of the Mind's Eye. It just never seemed harsh enough to work as real profanity. Not to mention that it always made me think of a Ford Mustang.

One of my favorite uses of swearing was in an episode of Weeds where something goes disasterously wrong, and Nancy, the main character, goes through a whole string of swears ending in granny fucking.
Here it is (NSFW language, obviously):

Wasn't there some kind of an issue with O'Brien saying bollocks in one of the DS9 episodes?
I don't know if there was an official issue. I remember a post made here where someone said they were both surprised the word was in the episode and that it stayed unedited in the broadcasts in Britain. Bollocks is an interesting word, in North America no one says it, and if it were heard most people would just give confused looks and ask "what the fuck does that mean?" Meanwhile, in Britain it's apparently one of the more serious swear words.

BTW, in case anyone is wondering, the episode in question is Time's Orphan.

There's that meme, with the still-frame form Lord Of The Rings, "One does not just ...." They caught the frame where his hand is in what we here in the USA think of as the OK sign. But I know that in some parts of the world, that is the "you're an A-hole" sign, and other parts it means something even more rude than that.

And sometimes the cross-cultural rudeness is accidental. There's a reason that Jack Vance's classic sf novel, SERVANTS OF THE WANKH, had to be retitled in the UK . . . :)

Huh, I thought I saw all those, but I guess I missed that one.

That's OK, I don't really think I have the inclination. I was just surprised, as I hadn't heard that before.

I'm sure he just said "fuddle-duddle"... ;)

That... was me. And we come full circle!

In the LotR trilogy there are multiple references to Dwarf tossing, which makes me chuckle every time, giving the alternate meaning of tossing has over here.

I don't think I even want to know.

By the way, I think I figured out who e-mailed me. It's probably the same guy who said he was going to report me for using the official USAF rank insignia as my avatar icon a few months back. Not sure who he is exactly, but about three years ago myself and a couple others had some jerk-wad kicked off a military discussion board for being an arse and general stupidity. I think it's that guy. At this point, I don't care anymore.

It's UK slang, and Tolkien was English. I wonder if it had that connotation in his day? Could it have been a deliberate double entendre?

No, because the phrase wasn't used in the books. Even if it was, I can't imagine that sort of humor being used in his works — but I guess you never know.
