Just to be perfectly clear, I’m talking about the food, not the country.

Now that the holidays are upon us, lots of us will feast on the traditional turkey for Thanksgiving, Christmas or both. But have we been brainwashed into thinking this rather heavy, bland-tasting poultry is a special holiday treat?

Now, I love the trimmings -- stuffing, cranberry sauce, candied yams, whatever. Everything but the bird. Frankly, I'd rather have a nice, well-seasoned roast chicken. Or a tasty ham.

So, how much do you like turkey?

I enjoy turkey, particularly with stuffing and potato salad.

i like to eat and this is one time where no one looks at me funny for getting 4th or 5th helpings of food.

I like it, but admittedly I usually dip white meat in mashed potatoes and gravy or pour gravy directly on it instead of just eating it plain. Dark meat is more flavorful though so I'll eat that plain, and that's why I prefer dark meat for turkey sandwiches after the holiday.

Prepared properly (ie smoked or fried), turkey is awesome! However, when it's simply roasted, it kinda sucks...so I will have to say it depends.

Unfortunately, most of the birds from the supermarket are pretty plain and end up as flavor carriers for gravy and the rest of the stuff on my plate. I've had occasion to enjoy some perfectly cooked wild turkey though, and that was damn tasty.

Meh.... but since I'm not doing anything for it this year then it doesn't matter. But considering I ran someone over on thanksgiving last year, this one is better in that respect.

Yes, I do like it. My fiancee doesn't. She used to quote her paternal grandmother as saying "It tastes the same as it looks".

I can understand that many times turkey is dry, but the one I had today (and in Taiwan at that!) was quite juicy.

Turkey is awesome. I also love the leftovers for sandwiches.

Here's another vote for post-Thanksgiving Dinner turkey sandwiches! With Hellmann's Mayonnaise!

I have enjoyed a couple of nice, tasty & moist turkey at dinners over the years, but too often it has been pretty dry (Since I have never been the cook, though, I am not going to criticize anyone too harshly!). The follow-up turkey mayonnaise sandwiches make up for it, though!

Agreed, I think the real reason why they are a popular holiday food is because they are big enough to feed a whole family, and cheap with it.

There's really nothing special about them at all, i'd place them at the bottom of the list of tasty poultry.

I don't mind a little bit of turkey on a submarine sandwich--or even on a club sandwich with bacon, lettuce and tomato--but by itself, no.

Now, my uncle smokes turkey in his barbecue pit for thanksgiving and christmas, and I like that because it doesn't really taste like turkey, but more like roasted pork (I had to check to make sure that it was indeed turkey).
