Does anyone like TMP uniforms?

^ Mego had the 3.75" figures in 1979 and 1980. But no Uhura, Chekov or Sulu.

I still have mine in a box somewhere but I lacked any knowledge of customisation in my formative years. I never saw any of the aliens in shops in Colchester mind you. It wasn't exactly a metropolis. The Playmates ones were probably slightly better but I delayed buying them to check that they were going to do everyone and they never did!

Yup, and the Mego Decker has a yellow uniform I think. I'm surprised Playmates never did Decker. After all the bizarre choices they made, they never did the main character from one of the films! They made Illia, but she had no Decker Unit to play with. It certainly ruined my childhood.

Actually I only ever had Sulu from that line, and Kruge. I always wanted Khan and General Chang, but never found them! Kruge was a cool figure though, he had the disruptor with the bolt-on rifle extension.

You can find them on ebay, at pretty close to the original prices in some cases. I've been thinking of completing my army of Klingons.

It rather upsets me that none of the Trek figures since then have been in that 4.5" scale, since I got so many of them.

We got these two at least and I think I also saw an all grey Kirk variant somewhere. Not sure if he was real or just a custom. But yeah, a whole team including the space suit would have been nice.

I saw the all-gray uniformed Kirk at Toys R Us stores in a 2-pack with the above Spock.

Yeah, they were the best scale. DST should have stuck with them, rather than the rather lifeless, statuesque ones they made.

I know they are pretty easy to get hold of now, but I daren't start, or my house will be full of little Star Trek guys in no time, and my partner would not be impressed. I do just need an All Good Things Geordi head to finish off my movie TNG crew though!

I love the TMP uniforms. They look sleek, futuristic, and utilitarian; they are neither overly stylized, nor overly simplistic (which is how I view the ToS uniforms), nor garish (which is how I view the II-VI uniforms - the uniforms are the one thing about II-VI that I dislike).

I'm not sure if I like them. I don't like them in TMP but I liked seeing them in the Untold Voyages comics though. It's like a lot of the changes in TMP. I like them but not that film.

As a kid i never cared for the uniforms. They are kinda drab. But i like em. To me the drab-ness felt like a reaction to the colorful costumes from TOS that were kinda used to sell color TVs. I missed out on the Art Asylum two pack though. Last time i looked on e-bay it was kinda expensive.

I like the idea behind them. But I can't blame the actors for pushing for new uniforms when TWOK rolled around. As pointed out on the first page of this thread, the TMP unis weren't flattering to aging actors' bodies (something Shatner in particular was always sensitive about). And apparently they were a bitch to get in and out of; woe to the actor who needed a last-minute potty break.

Yes, I think I remember hearing how much of a pain it was to go to the bathroom in those things. Lesson: Don't create one-piece costumes.

And to sit down. Whenever Kirk sits into the Captain's Chair, I cringe on his behalf.

Really love this:

I like them. The variety of styles was good to see, even if the colour scheme was a little bland.

I did like how the department colours were expanded to more than just the three, made far more sense IMO.

It seems TMP uniforms aren't liked by too many fans. Despite liking Kirk and McCoy's uniform, I myself think TMP uniforms are the worst in Trek. But I wanted to see if there was anyone who generally loves them, and if so, why. TMP uniform lovers, let your voices be heard!
The TMP uniforms were just plain butt ugly IMO. The red uniforms were an improvement, although a friend of mine asked why they looked like valets.

While on the whole I think the uniforms are not that great, there are some elements that I do really like. The Class A tunic and Kirk's dress tunic are nice designs, especially the curved front and rear panels. I like the use of the old-style rank braid, but I like the epaulettes on the other tops as well. The clean white of the medical uniforms was good and allowed medical personnel to be easily identified. I appreciate that there were short-sleeve uniforms, though I think the sleeves were a bit too short.

I think the following movies showed how the TMP uniforms could be improved, even the jumpsuits with the way they were modified into the enlisted uniforms. The maroon dye and separating the boots from the pants were both major improvements that could have been applied to all the variants. The security guard variant of the Class As looked better too with the addition of the turtlenecks, and without the armor I think they could have made a good duty uniform alternative to the dressier jackets. The turtleneck helped McCoy's white tunic as well.
