Awe, I can't believe so few people like it.
Hate is a strong word, I don't hate any TOS episodes, I love them all. This is not to say there aren't some episodes that are better, cinematically, than others- simply that I enjoy them all.
I like the mystery of Alternative Factor, you know crazy shit's going down but unlike some other stories it's not really predictable. I kinda like that every other ship is evacuated and they leave the Enterprise too, I like that notion of danger and being on your own. I think there's also some neat dialogue between the main characters, like when Lazurus says "something wrong?" and Kirk goes "no, I have a ship's physician with a strange sense of humour" with that deadpan look.
Only weird thing is that Kirk seems pissed off with Spock for most of the episode, which is a little disturbing and kinda weird. I think that's the only thing I don't like about it. They seem a bit better toward the end of the episode, but at the beginning it's just plain awkward. I think the first time I watched it I spent half the episode going "omg why is kirk being such as asshole to spock
