Does anyone else get a sick kick out of Muniz's death?

GeneHunt

Commander
Red Shirt
The guy was such a cringeworth nerd - and was a total brown noser with O'Brien, so I couldnt help but laugh a little at his demise.

Thoughts?

Muniz - the guy who is always up O'Briens arse.

The guy who died a slow death after been shot by a Jem Hadar in the episode where they find the crashed ship.

B/c he's Hispanic, I blv it was supposed to pull at the heart strings. I was w/Worf shoot his ass and get him out.

Doesn't ring a bell. I guess this fellow didn't have such a presence Dr. Romano had on ER.

Looking back Muniz was always cannon fodder. The irrepressible and simple Hispanic who gets drawn into a wider conflict, it was always set up for a kill.

I was glad he died though. The female Vorta in that episode was pretty hot. I would tuck her away somewhere and tell the Founders i'd murdered her and they should make a clone.

In honesty, I didn't care much about him. he was just a TOS-esque red-shirt (so to speak - as was the Benzite in the runabout at the start of the ep).

I like Chief O'Brien, and always have since TNG days, but he would got his arse royally beaten by Worf had Sisko not broke them up lol.:rommie:

Absolutely not... he was a friendly and intelligent person who had a slow, tragic death.

Ray Romano was also pretty decent in The King of Queens.

I don't remember Muniz at all. I don't think I've ever felt good about a death of a Starfleet officer. I was actually pretty angry at some of them. Klingons talking about ripping the throat out of a Starfleet captain infuriated me. Federation being close allies with those barbarians is a bit...meh

As with many such characters, Muniz was there to shine a spotlight on one of the main characters, and reveal something else about them: In this case, O'Brien. I thought it was great to see the Chief and the kind of relationship he has with "his" team - and to see Worf and O'Brien go at each other, which I thought was well handled (and not as contrived as other times main characters had a tiff).

As such, Muniz' death was very effective. Did I laugh? Of course not. But the point of his death was not for us to feel sorry for him, but to feel for the effect it had on O'Brien. It worked, and did a good job.

Love the end of the ep as well when Worf and O'Brien both watch guard over Muniz.

He wasn't one of the better actors to be given a major role on a DS9 episode. I think his delivery of the lines was pretty unconvincing. Nevertheless, I felt for him when he was wounded and suffering, and when he died at the end.
