Why would she play second fiddle on Excelsior? If anything, I see her being named SG's permanent Captain and Raffi being HER XO.

When did he get made a lieutenant? I must've missed that. Although it would still be a protocol- and plausibility- busting move.
No, but we've never seen that move ever pulled before for a permanent commission.

He was a lieutenant when he came aboard the Enterprise. Similar to Saavik in TWOK, where cadet department colors, but lieutenant's insignia. On the jump screen there is a readout that states "Lieutenant Kirk."
Regardless, Pike moves him in to the chain of command once he makes him first officer, so he is eligible to be move up the chain of command. Unlikely? Yeah, probably. Plausible? Yes.

NuKirk's Lieutenant rank is displayed on the monitor that Chekov is looking at when he does that mid-air transporter trick. So at that point Kirk must have been doing advanced command training at the Academy, similar to Lieutenant Saavik in TWOK.

I don't want her to be a permament Starfleet captain, but put her in a position that makes her less at odds with Starfleet.
How often have the guys clashed with Starfleet? (Kirk, Picard, Sisko, etc.)
She can apply for a direct commission (assuming Starfleet grants them):

She may also be able to draw on the experience of many previously assimilated commissioned officers. On VOY she was able to recall a great deal of knowledge she had been exposed to while she was a Borg drone.
Okay, so from your point of view, the field commission was permanent not just for the situation? I figured Starfleet Command would decide who would be in command of the Stargazer after the Borg event, I guess Seven is appropriate based on the logic from this show. We'll see in season 3, but I'd still like to see whether Seven adjusts in the day to day duties as a Starfleet officer, either a propped up Captain, or an officer who earned a commission rank.
It's what I understood through my father who currently has a commission in the US Navy, but I don't mind @Danja stating what she thought despite was CLEAR from the episode.

You were correcting me on my comment about Raffi and Seven's possibility of being on the Excelsior by stating Seven's field commission which you thought gave her the command of the Stargazer permanently. That's not how it supposed to work but judging the level of ridiculousness coming from these Viacom + Trek it can work in their reality. Picard backing her and getting away with it??? Meh. Getting something like a commissioned command is about paying military dues while on duty as a commissioned career person. But the backing from the GOAT? I would have to automatically say, "ABSOLUTELY". I mean this wunderkind literally made deals with the Borg.

At this rate, Starfleet risks turning into Admiral Picard's fantasy football team. They must think he's got a screw loose...

LOL! With this series you should expect the path not logical. As for Raffi, her relationship with Seven may change her for the better and I'm looking forward to seeing them on the Excelsior, along with Elnor. Seven being onboard could also assist Raffi in becoming a better mentor for him, if done right we maybe seeing her version of family in space. This element could make her more likeable.
