Doctor Who The Visual Dictionary Revised and Expanded Is Out

Unfortunately not in any of the Chapters around my area yet. It has been out in the UK since the end of May I think. I have the first one thanks to my dad who sent it shortly before my first foot surgery in 2007 and it didn't start appearing in Chapters book shelfs for at least another six months so it's hard to tell when it will arrive here. I'm tempted to get it off amazon. Does anyone own a copy yet? I'd be interested in reading a review...also curious as to what has been included. I'm assuming series three and four were added since the first one came out just after Series three aired.

Is the book a "full series" reference, or does it just cover the new series? I much prefer the books that cover the whole history back to 63. The Companions and Allies book that came out a few months ago was one of the best examples I'd seen of a recent (licenced) reference book covering the whole show.

I am curious about that as well. I'd love to have a comprehensive reference book that covers the ENTIRE series, not just from the new series.

It's just the new series.

I have the first edition (it goes up to "Smith and Jones") and I was unimpressed. The TARDIS interior, Dalek flagship, and sonic screwdriver cutaways are cool, but everything else is fairly ordinary-- screenshots or photos you've seen a billion times before. The image quality isn't even that high. Not a patch on the Star Wars ones.

The little info tags on each picture relate fascinating facts like "Rose buys her clothes from Henrik's on employee discount." Oh, I'm positively quivering with excitement!

I guess it depends on who the book is aimed at. While most of the DW spin-off books (reference guides, etc) are clearly intended to be purchased by not only newcomers but folks interested in the history, there are a few books here and there that are more aimed at young, young readers who probably don't even remember there was a Doctor before David Tennant.

The revised and expanded edition has around twenty more pages to it. The first one as mentioned covered the first two seasons of the new Who. This one will cover what the original didn't and season four info I hope.

Well I just bought it thsi morning and after flipping through it...wow what an improvement over the previous edition! There are some very nice profiles, including another fold out on the Tardis, Sonic Screwdrivers, The Master, Rose, Martha, and Donna. It's updated through Series Four and includes a little side box on the last page on The Next Doctor. Has a profile on Davros, The Cult of Skaro, etc. It really is awesome. I'm glad I picked it up.

I don't know if Admiral Young has tracked down a copy yet, but it's in the Chapters and Indigo stores here in Alberta, now.

I flipped through it. It looks good, and fans of Jenny will want to check out the photo they used but it's not wide-ranging enough for me (in that it doesn't include the original series). I'm surprised, though, that the book doesn't seem to include anything from the 2009 specials or Matt Smith. You'd think they'd have included something to whet the appetitie (but maybe I missed it just flipping through it).

Yeah I picked up a couple of weeks ago and love it. A real improvement on the first one IMO. The pic of Jenny is awesome lol.
