Besides the obvious whoa moment, Capaldi looks really cool in that picture. It's kind of funny I've been growing more attached to him just through pictures and stories. At this rate he'll be "my Doctor" before any episodes air.

Besides the obvious whoa moment, Capaldi looks really cool in that picture. It's kind of funny I've been growing more attached to him just through pictures and stories. At this rate he'll be "my Doctor" before any episodes air.
It looks "silly" because it's out of context, most photos like this usually make anything look stupid compared to how it'll eventually appear on screen.

I dunno, not that silly. No worse than some of the creatures in my old copy of Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials. And those were all based on respected SF books.

He looks sad like he could use some cheering up in the last picture.
In the case of illustrations, it always depends on who does the drawing as to how silly they look.
With rubber suits, it depends on who makes them, I guess.
Humans probably look quite ridiculous to a dolphin or an elephant or an octopus.
^ And sometimes to each other.
Of course he'll look more impressive on film. instead of trudging across the yard wondering how long til the bloody lunch break. 
It would have been classic to see the monster taking a smoke break

I'm not sure if that could every look serious. I has a little rabbit tail. I can see creases in the suit, especially in the legs. But above all, it looks like it's wearing fucking flares. That monster looks like it has a pair of bastard flares.
Oh no, we can see flaws in the suit of a Doctor Who monster! That has never happened before in fifty years! Head for the hills!
