An official announcement hasn't been made by Silva Records yet I don't think but I did see this on Amazon UK. It would seem we're getting another two disc set and a release date of Dec 5. This is awesome news. I expect their to be more news in the coming weeks.

Two disks? Was there that much new music in Series Six? Series Five felt very fresh, but I thought Six reused a lot of Five.

I detected a lot of new music for Series Six...as well as reused cues and motifs from series five but the music from Demon's Run was new and should be in their. I think Murray has been on fire these past two series and the same with Torchwood: Miracle Day (no word on a score release for it yet).

Also, Gold has been known to include stuff from previous seasons. I think it's the Series 4 album that includes a 10-minute suite of music from Voyage of the Damned, even though The Stowaway and other pieces from the special had been included on the previous set.

There's also a lot of music that never makes it on air, and we've already heard that several episodes had to be cut down for broadcast (Exhibit A: The Doctor's Wife) so we might hear some unbroadcast music too.

This is pretty short notice on a release, though, less than 5 weeks ahead, especially since so many people rely on online orders to get these things now. If I wanted to have this for Christmas there's a good chance I wouldn't get it in time if I ordered from Canada on Dec. 5 (these things don't end up on the Canada version of Amazon until usually a few months later, sometimes not at all, and I never bother looking for these things at retail anymore, especially since this is probably the last Christmas for Canada's last national CD chain).

I never double-checked, but I believe that "The God Complex" had one or two new arrangements of the Amy/Rory love theme, in addition to reusing "The Life and Death of Amy Pond."

I just hope the next Torchwood album actually includes tracks with the Torchwood riff in it. It's amazing how ubiquitous it is in the show, with plenty of different arrangements, but it wasn't anywhere on the actual soundtrack except buried in the opening credits track. Heck, just stuff 'em all at the end. A dozen or so six-second tracks all in a row of every version used. I'll use 'em for ringtones.

Thinking about it, though, it was weird that "Miracle Day" never used the Captain Jack theme. Now, that was represented on the soundtrack.

i still haven't had a chance to listen to the series five soundtrack yet. i did listen to some of the fan edits on youtube of music from series six.

Off the top of my head, I know The Impossible Astronaut had a new arrangement of "I am the Doctor" used in the opening sequence when everyone gets their invitation and meets in Utah.

Also season 6 did feature a new tune that was used frequently. We first hear it in The Impossible Astronaut when the Doctor is killed and cremated, then again in Day of the Moon when the little girl/River regenerates, and again in A Good Man Goes to War when River reveals her identity.

But yeah, I'd agree that I didn't think there was two discs worth of new material in season 6's music.

That's not really the same thing. The music from "The Runway Bride" is on the Series 3 album, just like the episode is on the Series 3 DVD, and the music from "Voyage of the Damned" is on the Series 4 album, just like the episode is on the Series 4 DVD. It's not that the music from those stories were carried over to later albums, it's that the vocal pieces from those stories were carried over to earlier ones, as a special preview ("Love Don't Roam" on the Series 1-2 soundtrack, and "The Stowaway" on the Series 3 soundtrack).

Season 6 has some amazing music IMO.

I suppose it did. Unfortunately I don't actually remember any of it. :(

Say what you will about RTD, but I really rather preferred the more bombastic music of his era.

Same here. Although the Moffat era has some excellent pieces of music like "I am the Doctor" or "The Mad Man with a Box" some of the best Doctor Who tunes come from the RTD era. "This is Gallifrey" "All the Strange, Strange Creatures" "The Doctor Forever" "The Dream of a Normal Death" "The Song of Freedom" "Vale Decem" These are fucking awesome tunes.

It'd be nice if the RTD Doctor theme popped up... at all. Next time the Doctor does something mystical or time-lordy. I remember thinking it would've been perfect for the scene in "Eleventh Hour" where he show's Amy the apple from when she was a kid.

Apparently, it was a decision from one of the producers to reset the show's musical identity (though the Cybermen, of all things, got to keep their theme).

I like the music cue fromthe Doctor's wife as the doctor and Idris escape the planet and head for the tardis.

Although the Daleks had a new theme in Victory of the Daleks, it does still borrow elements from the Dalek theme used in the RTD era. Specifically, the music heard in The Stolen Earth.

Also, the Previously On recaps for season 5's Weeping Angel two-parter and Silurian two-parter used the variation of "All the Strange, Strange Creatures" created for The End of Time.

This is true, I did like that bit. Otherwise though I think the show has gone all B&B musically, as in the soundtrack has been mostly reduced to background noise.

Actually come to think of it, I could go for a SJA soundtrack collection. That show had some great music.

Well we have our first push back date...the soundtrack is coming out in the UK (no North American Date yet I don't think) on Dec 19th.
