Doctor Who Series 5 to air on BBC America

Excellent news, and I had been hoping this would be the case. BBC America is in less homes than SyFy, but it promotes Doctor Who much more heavily than SyFy does. This should mean Doctor Who will be available for iTunes download much quicker as well, for those who don't get BBCA.

Good in the fact that BBC America airs the eps without cutting them down like SyFy did, but bad in that BBC America and the TiVO at my place don't line up too well time-wise, meaning the last minute of episodes are often cut off. :o

I have DISH Network and would never go back to cable. I watch more BBC America than SyFy channel. This is good news for Doctor Who, I really hated how SyFy used to chop the shows up and never realized it until I watched the same episode on BBC America or on DVD.

Episodes will also be available on BTC one hour after the UK broadcast

Btw, BTC stand for Bit Torrent Channel. LOL

Maybe that means it's closer to being shown by the Space channel in Canada? Dunno.

Well Space has been showing the specials so maybe there's some hope and they do have Torchwood.

But would Space cut the eps though?

It does also air on BBC Canada.

I'm not sure if Space in Canada is cutting episodes, since it's so new for them to have Dr. Who.

It didn't seem awkward for Torchwood: Children of the Earth. They even added time to fit in the commercial breaks and ended shows at 8:15.

I have BBC Canada and I've never seen Doctor Who on it. As for SPACE, they already released a press release a couple months ago that announced they would be showing the remaining Specials as well as Series 5.

And tucked in there Children of Earth brings highest ratings ever for BBCA. Sure it's probably being beat by the Sci-Fi Channel Schlock movie of the week but within its little world the Whoverse is riding high.

We have BBC America, but no HD version (yet). Hopefully it will be in our next batch of new HD channels.:shifty:

Cool! I'm really looking forward to it then! I usually feel a year or two behind on Dr. Who and I was tired of it. It would even be more excellent if they got the rights to air some of the older Dr's too. They could stop showing Stargate all day and night, then :p

Hopefully BBC America will air them in a timely manner so I wont have to watch them through alternate means. Sorry but I'm not going to wait weeks when they don't have to do anything but air the episode.

Agreed. Anything longer than a week, and I'll have to resort to those... other means too.

And of course this means there is officially nothing on Scifi I'll be watching now. I might give the new Stargate a try, but it if turns out to be as dull and generic as the other ones, then no thanks.

BBC America can't schedule the show until after BBC One has announced the schedule. So any timeliness rests on BBC One actually deciding when it wants to air stuff.

Meh, I just download them through torrents a few hours after they air in the UK. My girlfriend and I look forward to it every Saturday. :techman:
