Doctor Who gets 2nd Guinness Book Record

Personally as a Stargate fan and a Doctor Who fan, i have no difficulty accepting SG-1 as the longest running consecutive science fiction show, and Doctor Who as the Longest Running full stop.

Doctor Who is still the longest running consecutive Sci-Fi show, running for twenty-six years straight from 1963 to 1989 before taking its 15-year break (barring the TV movie).
but Doctor Who cheats, no other show can get away with the idea of regeneration, sure ratings helped but the ability to change the lead actor, but keep the lead character, in a way that keeps him the same & writes him for a new generation, its a real luxury the show has.

Which is neither here nor there. The show ran longer, end of story.

Besides, Gunsmoke ran for 20 years and Law & Order is set to break its record soon. And then there's the endless list of daytime soap operas.

Who's spend the most years playing the same sci-fi character? I'm guessing Micheal Dorn, or Amanda Tapping?

Or Anthony Daniels maybe?

I was thinking whole seasons as the same character rather than one offs, but yes you could argue it that way :) In which case Nicholas Courtney first played Lethbridge Stuart in 1968, and again last year. That's 40 years apart.
What about Leonard Nimoy? :)

Just say that Stargate is the longest consecutive running US sci-fi series. In my opinion, that makes everyone happy!
