Sorry the title didn't really make sense- the site wouldn't let me type anymore characters. I just wanted to know if the Doctor Who Easter special "The Planet of the Dead" going to air in the US? If so, will it air around Easter on the Sci-Fi Channel?

I don't really even watch Doctor Who that much, so I don't even know if the Sci-Fi channel is airing the current episodes or older ones.

Re: Doctor Who Easter Special "The Planet Of The Dead" Going to Air in

well the simple answer, we dont know when Sci-Fi show The Next Doctor & the other specials.

Re: Doctor Who Easter Special "The Planet Of The Dead" Going to Air in

Sci Fi Channel hasn't made any announcement about airing the current set of Doctor Who specials. They didn't pick up the most recent Christmas special, "The Next Doctor," for Christmas broadcast, so I doubt they'll be getting "Planet of the Dead" for Easter. In fact, it may not even air on the BBC by Easter; it's being called the Easter special for convenience, but it will only air then if it's finished in time.

I would guess that Sci Fi Channel will wait and air all five specials around the same time, whether as a mini-season or attached to the forthcoming fifth series in 2010. But it's all guesswork.

It will be airing in my household shortly after the UK airing. :techman:

I wish BBCAmerica had gotten Doctor Who.

Re: Doctor Who Easter Special "The Planet Of The Dead" Going to Air in

Not me...BBCA is a premium channel where I am. Sorry, it's just not worth the added cost these days just for Who or Torchwood.

My gut feeling on this is that Skiffy will show the specials next January as a short season leading up to Matt Smith's debut, which will air shortly after Series 5 ends in Britain or, like Series 4, about a quarter or a third of the way through the British airing.

So, I'll guess:

January to early Feb: Doctor Who
Probably SJA Series 2 at the same time (unless they air it later in 09).

April/May or June: Doctor Who Series 5 debuts on Skiffy

Re: Doctor Who Easter Special "The Planet Of The Dead" Going to Air in

BBC America has been showing Doctor Who.

Re: Doctor Who Easter Special "The Planet Of The Dead" Going to Air in

Yeah, it just got through showing Season Four.

Is BBCA that big of a deal to get?? I mean, I get it simply through my local cable company. It's only on the second-tier services. I don't get how it's such a "rare" channel to find...

Re: Doctor Who Easter Special "The Planet Of The Dead" Going to Air in

I get BBCA for $2 extra per month. Not a big deal.

Re: Doctor Who Easter Special "The Planet Of The Dead" Going to Air in

^ Does the SciFi channel not air the specials then? You said the SciFi channel is currently airing Season 4. What season was being aired in the UK?

Series 4 was the last one in the UK, the specials air over the course of this year, series 5 starts next Spring/Summer.

No, he meant that BBC America is currently airing season 4. Sci Fi Channel has first broadcast rights for Doctor Who in the US, and aired each episode of Season 4 (with the exception of its Christmas special) a few weeks after it aired in the UK. But Sci Fi doesn't seem to have plans to air the specials any time soon, so some people are wishing that BBC America could show them first, because they would do so sooner.

Not if your cable company just plain doesn't offer it, as mine doesn't! Philistines...

You articulate my thoughts much better than I do. From now on, I am going to have you post as my proxy. :D

Re: Doctor Who Easter Special "The Planet Of The Dead" Going to Air in

I really miss Dr. Who.

BBCA and SciFi have re-run the CRAP out of the last few seasons, and I was lucky enough to see the last season a bit, um, earlier.

It's been ages, and I'm starting to really miss it. The Christmas Special was OK, but I'm missing that childish glee I get from Who. Not too many scifi shows have the same sense of joy in their programs. It's usually dark, depressing and dramatic---which is great, most of the time; I like the drama---but Dr. Who is like a breath of fresh air that takes me back to my childhood.

Sigh...

Put it back on, already!

I was able to watch both the Dr Who Christmas Special and the Jonathan Creek Christmas Special last month, and it's really made me realize how much I miss them both.

Re: Doctor Who Easter Special "The Planet Of The Dead" Going to Air in

apart from Sarah Jane Adventures 2 & The Next Doctor, there is nothing Sci-Fi / BBC Am have not show from the Whoverse.
